Cubelic: I could see Erik McCoy going off the board in the first round
Key notes from Cole Cubelic interview
- I’m definitely into the draft. I grew up a Steelers fans and have always loved the NFL. Its always cool to see guys who we’ve rooted for in college get drafted and do well in the league.
- The NFL does such a good job with how they market this thing. I think a lot of us questioned this move to primetime television and turning the draft into a multi-day event, but it has really worked out well.
- I don’t think the SEC breaks its record for most first round picks tonight. Although, I have heard a lot of chatter about Erik McCoy. I could see him coming off the board at the bottom of the first round.
- I think the biggest question from the SEC is AJ Brown. Personally, I think that he has a very bright future in the NFL. He doe it all. He’d be a perfect guy to have in today’s NFL. The running back position may also affect how many SEC players get taken tonight. Josh Jacobs probably won’t go until the late first if he does get drafted.
- Cornerback is another interesting position. Nobody really has a consensus for who the best corners are in this draft class. Some guys have Greedy Williams as a top 10 talent, while others don’t even have him in the first round. If Williams does go in the first round, that would help the SEC reach that number.
- I think under normal circumstances; both of the Mississippi State prospects go within the top 10. However, Montez Sweat’s heart condition and Jeffery Simmons’ injury have hurt their draft stock. They’ll fall, but they won’t plummet.
- I think the Arizona Cardinals ultimately end up going with Kyler Murray with the first overall pick tonight. I think he is the best fit in Kliff Kingsbury’s offense. The Cardinals will also need to get him some help at receiver to go alongside Christian Kirk.
- If you go and study the film, Cullen Gillaspia is a really special player. He can line up at H-back, linebacker, and anywhere on special teams. However, there are not a ton of teams who value special teamers high enough to draft them.
