Asa Lacy fires complete game shutout in 1-0 victory over the Bulldogs

As the rain clouds finally left College Station and the sun came out to play on a brilliant Saturday afternoon, so did Aggie lefthander Asa Lacy. Lacy was borderline untouchable as he twirled a complete game shutout en route to a 1-0 victory in seven innings for Texas A&M.

Game one of the double header was a pitcher’s duel from the beginning. JT Ginn, Mississippi State’s electric freshman starter, was also on his game from the word go. Ginn struck out seven Aggies and gave up just three hits in six innings of work. Lacy was equally as dominate, striking out eight and allowing three hits in a magnificent effort.

The difference in the game was a lone run scored by the Aggies in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ginn walked Shewmake to put a runner on first for Aggie LF Zach DeLoach. DeLoach then scorched a line drive past first base and into the RF corner. The Aggies aggressively waved Shewmake around third as the throw to the cutoff was made, but Bulldog second baseman, Justin Foscue, couldn’t handle it and there was no relay to the plate. DeLoach’s RBI double couldn’t have come at a better time.

Asa Lacy came back out to finish what he had started and dispatched the Bulldogs in order to secure game two of the series and the first game of this weekend double header. First pitch for the rubber match is scheduled for 4:45pm as Christian Roa is likely to take the mound for Texas A&M.
