Recruiting Country: The latest recruiting news surrounding the Maroon & White
Key notes from Recruiting Country
- I think the big thing for the Aggies off the field to watch this weekend is the commitment of Antonio Johnson, being announced on Saturday. That decision could make waves throughout the midwest with guys like Dontae Manning and Antonio Doyle, especially Doyle.
- They had Jordan Morant in this weekend, still a long way to go there. I was told by a source this week that they would take the field over Michigan right now. I think that's a good sign for Texas A&M. But you never know, that could mean that there are a lot of other players involved for him. I think the A&M presence in New Jersey, already have Fadil Diggs committed, is really helping.
- Morant was here with his teammate, 2021 Tywone Malone, who left Texas A&M as impressed with the baseball program as he did with the football program. He will be one of the best DT's in the country in 2021.
- The Ags also landed in Vito Tisdale's top four, and he has yet to visit Aggieland. A&M still has a lot of excellent options at safety in 2020.
- As far as visitors this weekend in 2020, TE Arik Gilbert (pictured above) out of Georgia will be in this weekend. Then you'll have a lot of the commitments in town as well, then a bevy of guys from the 2021 class. There's not a lot of spots left to fill in the 2020 class at this point. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out.
- My takeaway from seeing Garrett Hayes on Friday night, he's Kenyon Green without the technique. He is an insanely athletic offensive lineman. He's got the feet, the strength, and the straight-line speed. He has it all athletically. I saw him chase down a sure thing pick-six on an interception; it was shades of Larry Allen. TCU is in the lead for him right now. A&M needs to get him to campus.
Ask Brauny
Will Mowry and Ellison be in the 2020 class?
I think so. Academically they are both ready. Now it's just a numbers thing about when they can get on campus. I'm very confident they will both wear the Maroon & White.
Will Spiller's success as a freshman get Zach Evans’ attention?
I think it'll get a lot of people's attention, not just Zach. I think it's catching Daniyel Ngata's attention. I think it's grabbing Deondre Jackson's attention. I bet the emergence of Ainias Smith also catches Devon Achane's attention.
- Troy Omeire got it done this week. He got himself in great shape, and now they have a quarterback who can get the ball in his general vicinity, and he's going to go out there and make plays. He's also fully healthy now, the knee is better, and he's running so much better now.
- This weekend I'm going to Manvel vs. Fort Bend Marshall. Howell is off this weekend. I think Hop is going to see Reuben Fatheree at Richmond Foster.
