Childress, Aggies looking to re-rack following being swept by Florida
Key notes from Rob Childress interview
- I'm thankful I coach baseball and not football, so I don't have to wait seven days to get back on the field. Yesterday was probably our first true practice since the season began, and it was a good way to start the week.
- You have to have a short memory. Whether it was a good or bad week, you have to move on. It's all about perspective. We never had the momentum against Florida, and we got run out of there pretty quick in the first two games. We didn't get a great start in the third game either. The moments were there to take advantage, and we couldn't seize those opportunities.
- The times we were able to score, we weren't able to stop them from scoring. We didn't keep the momentum in every facet this weekend. We didn't play like I know we are capable of playing this weekend or how we played the past three weeks.
- Florida has a great offense with a lot of experience. Jonathan Childress was the one guy out of our three starters who had normal rest, but I thought he played a little on-edge and uncomfortable.
- We're going to stick with our normal rotation this week. Those guys have been too consistent to shuffle things at this point. Dustin Saenz will start on Friday, with Bryce Miller going on Saturday and Jonathan Childress pitching Sunday.
- Austin Bost was outstanding this weekend. Will Frizzell got things going late in the weekend. Bryce Blaum had a great third game. Still, Bost was great all weekend. He is a guy who we will keep in the lineup for a while.
- Rice won their series this past weekend and has a few guys with a lot of experience. For us, we need Nathan Dettmer to establish the curveball and changeup. We need him to get us deep in the game. Our bullpen guys are rested and available. We need to play well to establish confidence and consistency heading into the Georgia series this weekend.
- Georgia has very good and consistent pitching. We'll probably see two lefties this weekend, so that matches up well with our bullpen too. They are very capable offensively and were able to get a win over Tennessee last week. We must take care of business at home in the Southeastern Conference.
