During Monday's edition of TexAgs Radio, Richard Zane joined to take us Around Aggieland and provided updates from the Olympics, the gridiron and beyond as Texas A&M Athletics are just over a week from getting ramped up again for 2021-22.
Olympics
Three Aggies have medaled in Tokyo so far.
- United States’ Bryce Deadmon won bronze in the Mixed 4x400m Relay. After being DQ’d in the opening round, the Americans were allowed to run again, with Deadmon running anchor in a 44.99 split.
- After transitioning from mid-distance star to sprints, United States’ Fred Kerley won silver in the Men’s 100m, running a personal-best 9.84. Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs won gold.
- Canada’s Sydney Pickrem helped the Canadian 4x100m Medley Relay team capture bronze as they set a new Canadian record for the event, posting a time of 3:52.60
- Pickrem swam a 1:07.17 second leg.
- Pickrem is just the third Texas A&M swimmer to medal in the Olympics.
United States’ Athing Mu is into the women’s 800m final after running a 1:58.07 to win semi-final #2 on Saturday.
Trinidad & Tobago’s Deon Lendore placed fourth in the first semi-final in the Men’s 400m, running a 44.93, the ninth-fastest time of the semi-final round.
- Lendore failed to qualify for the 400m final by less than half a second.
Trinidad & Tobago’s Tyra Gittens is into Monday’s final of the Women’s Long Jump after jumping 22-0.75/6.72m, the fifth-best jump of Qualification Group A.
- The Women’s Long Jump final begins at 8:50 p.m. CT on August 2.
Spain’s Adri Arnaus finished tied for 38th in the men’s golf tournament, shooting 6-under par for the event.
Nigeria’s Adaora Elonu scored eight points in a 102-83 loss to Japan on Sunday.
- Nigeria finishes 0-3 in Group B.
USA Basketball and Khris Middleton play Spain in a quarterfinal game tonight.
- Tip-off is scheduled for 11:40 p.m. CT.
Football
Texas A&M players report for Fall Camp on Thursday, August 5.
- The first official day of Fall Camp is scheduled for Friday, August 6.
- Texas A&M’s annual media day is scheduled for Sunday, August 8.
Baseball
On Friday, Jim Schlossnagle announced that Casey Meyer has been retained as Associate Athletic Trainer, working exclusively with the Texas A&M Baseball team.
- Meyer has worked at Texas A&M for the last six years and has been with the baseball team since 2017.
Soccer
G Guerrieri & Co. will be the first Texas A&M team to begin play in the 2021-22 athletic calendar.
