Marcus Williams is taking a 'leave of absence', still enrolled at Texas A&M
Texas A&M sophomore point guard Marcus Williams has taken a “leave of absence” from the basketball team coach Buzz Williams said.
“He’s taken a leave of absence from the team,” Buzz Williams said. “It was not a disciplinary action at all. He just wanted to take a leave of absence. It’s indefinite.
“That’s not hiding anything. That’s just what it is.”
Marcus Williams did not travel with the Aggies for the 76-66 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday.
Buzz Williams said Marcus is still enrolled at A&M.
A transfer from Wyoming, where he was the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, Marcus Williams has started 25 games and is averaging 7.4 points and a team-leading 3.4 assists.
However, he’s struggled in the last five games in which he appeared. In that stretch, he shot 13.6 percent (3-of-22) from the field, was 0-of-9 on 3-point attempts and had averaged 0.7 points.
He did not play in the Aggies' 91-77 victory over Georgia last Tuesday.
Buzz Williams was noncommittal when asked if Marcus would be re-instated should he ask to rejoin the team.
“We’ll see how it all plays out,” Buzz Williams said.
