Game 1: No. 7 Oklahoma State 2, Texas A&M 1

Texas A&M began their second matchup against No. 7 Oklahoma State primed for redemption, starting the game hot with an RBI single from Trinity Cannon in the first inning.

However, redemption was not found as the Aggies ultimately fell 2-1 to open Sunday’s doubleheader.

The Aggies held the Cowgirls scoreless until the top of the fourth when an error gave OSU an unearned run. Pitcher Emiley Kennedy responded with three consecutive strikeouts, halting the offense before they could pull ahead.

“You look at that last inning, and we had an opportunity to make something happen for ourselves, and that’s what a coach expects; to put us in a position to win a ball game, and we did that.”
- A&M head coach Jo Evans

Kennedy, a freshman player, pitched all seven innings. She threw six strikeouts and allowed just four hits, proving that she can handle pressure on the mound.

“I don’t know what pitches were working for her, but I’m really proud of that kid,” Texas A&M head coach Jo Evans said. “That fourth inning where Oklahoma State put the pressure on, she threw three outs. She got big right there. I’ve seen her throw well, and I’ve seen her have a good presence, but in that moment, she didn’t look like a freshman at all.”

Oklahoma State pulled ahead with an RBI single in the sixth inning, but the defense limited the damage to one run.

“In both games we played them, we gave ourselves an opportunity to win the game in the end,” Evans said. “You look at that last inning, and we had an opportunity to make something happen for ourselves, and that’s what a coach expects; to put us in a position to win a ball game, and we did that.

“We expected to beat Oklahoma State, but I’m really proud of the way our kids came out.”

Game 2: Texas A&M 9, Texas Southern 1 (5 Innings)

The Aggies recovered quickly from the loss, racking up eight runs and seven hits in the first inning against Texas Southern, setting up for a dominant performance in a 9-1 rout.

Makinzy Herzog started play with an RBI single — setting the Aggies up for a fast-paced first inning. Shaylee Ackerman followed soon after with an RBI double.

Shaylee Ackerman’s three RBIs were more than enough to fuel A&M’s offense.

“We stepped up and were really disciplined in the strike zone. We were able to score and not make errors. We just played the game,”  Evans said. “I liked our approach. We could have been careless, and we didn’t do that.”

An RBI double from Texas Southern in the second got the visitors on the board, but an RBI single from Cayden Baker pushed Texas A&M’s lead back up to eight.

The Maroon & White kept the Tigers from scoring for the rest of the game, and a strikeout by Ackerman let the Aggies complete the run-rule and take home a 9-1 victory to conclude the Reveille Classic.

Texas A&M will travel to Fullerton, California next weekend to participate in the Judi Garman Classic, starting off the invitational Friday against Weber State.
