KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Texas A&M women's basketball team officially bowed out of the Big 12 Conference Saturday at Municipal Auditorium. Despite reaching the tournament title game for an unprecedented fifth consecutive time, this was not the way that the Aggies would have liked to bid adieu.
The Aggies were simply no match for top-ranked and top-seeded Baylor, and that was evident from the opening tip. Baylor scored the first 10 points en route to a 73-50 beatdown to win the title.
And in typical BU fashion, the fans began outbursts in unison of "Big12, Big 12" and "Goodbye, Aggies" … forgetting how upset they were that Texas A&M had decided to leave the conference for the SEC.

With the loss, A&M falls to 22-10 on the season. Baylor remains undefeated at 34-0. The Bears will carry the No. 1 overall seed into next week's NCAA Tournament, while the Aggies will await their fate - likely a three or four seed - when the bracket is revealed on Monday.
The Ags shot just 27.9 percent in the game and were 2-of-9 (22.2 percent) from three-point range. A&M shot 66.7 percent (14-of-21) at the stripe.
Two A&M players scored in double figures, led by Sydney Carter, who posted 11 points and three assists. Kelsey Bone added 10 points, six boards and three assists in 29 minutes off the bench.
The Bears, meanwhile, shot 49.1 percent from the field, doing most of their damage from inside the three-point arc (just 1-of-4 on threes). Baylor made 20-of-24 (83.3 percent) at the foul line.
Odyssey Sims led the way for Baylor, scoring 26 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and four steals. Brittney Griner, the tournament most outstanding player, was limited to just 11 points and three rebounds, but she did have six blocks in the win. Destiny Williams had a double-double … 12 points and 11 boards. Defensive specialist Jordan Madden also reached double figures, scoring 10 points.
This one could not have started worse for the maroon and white. Baylor opened the game red hot on the offensive end, scoring the first 10 points of the game. The Bears couldn't miss in the opening minutes, and when they did, they cleaned up the glass and got easy putbacks.
A&M, meanwhile, missed its first six shots before Bone's layup with 14:29 remaining in the first half made it 14-2 Baylor. That was immediately followed by a Sims three-pointer to put the Bears in front by 15, 17-2.
But an uncalled for unsportsmanlike act by Destiny Williams gave the Aggies some life and allowed them to get off the mat. Williams was whistled for a technical foul after pulling Kelsey Assarian's hair in a scrum near midcourt at the 12:04 mark.
Immediately following the technical foul, A&M proceeded to score nine consecutive points to pull it to within six, 17-11. During that flurry, Adrienne Pratcher hit back-to-back three-pointers to ignite the Aggie offense.
But Baylor was just too tough to contain, as they ripped of runs of 8-2 and 8-1 to close out the half with a 15-point lead, 35-20.
A&M shot 28.6 percent from the field, 33.3 percent on threes and an abysmal 33.3 percent (2-of-6) from the free throw line. Pratcher led the Aggies with eight points in the period.
Baylor made 51.7 percent of their shots in the first and was led by Sims' 11-point effort, despite sitting out for five minutes with an injury.
More of the same in the second half, as the Bears dominated opening minutes of the first half and cruised to a 23-point victory.
