Week 12's Overnight Sensation: Le'Veon Moss, Running Back

Each Monday during the 2022 Texas A&M football season, we’ll identify a first or second-year Aggie player who delivered an exceptional performance over the weekend and earned the distinction of being the week’s ‘Overnight Sensation.’

With Devon Achane sidelined with an injury for the second-straight game, many Aggies drew curious about the depth at the running back position, and when it was needed, true freshman running back Le’Veon Moss posted his best game yet. It was yet another performance uncharacteristic of a first-year player.

On Saturday, Texas A&M secured a 20-3 victory over Massachusetts. Averaging 6.5 yards per carry, Moss rushed for 78 yards on 12 carries, but more than that, Moss found his groove as a tailback in Maroon & White. Before Saturday, the Baton Rouge native totaled 16 carries for 42 yards. 

As many true freshmen have done all season, Moss stepped up when his number was called. Amari Daniels and Moss traded off carries throughout the game, but Moss emerged as the leading rusher of the day. 

On a 23-yard gain, his longest of the day, Moss blew through a Massachusetts defender, displaying his laborious power as a tailback. Gaining reps at the collegiate level, Moss’ running style displayed that of a typical Southeastern Conference back: physical, explosive and swift. A proven recipe for success.

The former four-star signee had no problem using his brute force to gain yardage after contact as he was able to find the end zone on a 12-yard carry for the first score of his career. 

Moss was one of five freshmen to start on offense for the Aggies, and game after game, the youngsters continue to adapt to the growing pains that come with being a youth-filled team. Finally picking up a win after a six-game slump, the experience Moss and his fellow freshman classmates are earning is invaluable to their stock as football players.

Looking ahead, Saturday's performance gave A&M fans a sample size of Moss' ability in the backfield as he looks to be a key part of A&M’s rushing attack in the near future.
