Notes from J.T. Higgins interview

* Most people think that Acie Law’s game-winner against Texas is defined as ‘The Shot’, but to him, ‘The Shot’ will always be Bronson Burgoon’s shot on the 18th hole to win the national championship in 2008. Everything was going against him and all the momentum was in Arkansas’ favor. He had lost four holes in a row and it ended up being all square heading into the 18th hole that would decide who won the national championship. The only thing lacking was the lack of the event being televised, but he will always remember that incredible moment.

* The team is playing with so much confidence right now and the guys are playing as well physically as they have played all year. Mentally, they are poised, have a great attitude and are just ready to go play which makes him feel really good about their chances in the NCAA Tournament.

* Cameron Peck is out for the rest of the season due to an injury. The good news is, it is completely treatable and he should be back in the fall.

* The lineup will be the same one the team used for the Big 12 Tournament that features Jordan Russell and Geoff Shaw at the one and two lines. Ty Dunlap and Greg Yates will be at three and four, and Johannes Veerman will take the five spot.

* The team has shown that they can win without Peck, and they feel really good about the way they are playing right now. The best thing is that their hard work is starting to show in their success on the course. The team has had a really busy last three weeks and has included a hectic schedule, but at the same time the players have been getting in so much work on their own and look fantastic.

* The teams in their region include UCLA with the one seed, Arkansas with the two seed, A&M with the three seed, Clemson with the four seed, North Texas with the five seed and finally, UT-Chattanooga with the sixth seed.

* The course the regional will be played on is a course where a lot of professional players go to get ready for The Masters. The greens are pretty severely sloped and are really fast as well. The bluegrass rough is up about three or four inches, and should play really tough. That’s good for A&M because they have played a lot of tough golf courses this year and should be right up their alley.

* Golfstat.com will be the best place for coverage this weekend and should have live scoring on every hole.

* He feels great confidence that his team can make a serious run at the national title. There are so many guys who have developed over the course of the year, which gives added confidence to the club.

* Yesterday, Ty Dunlap finished the day with a birdie and an eagle to qualify for sectionals at the U.S. Open. He finished tied for third on the day and is an amazing young man. He is in the business honors program at A&M and is one of the most impressive guys you will ever meet if you have the chance to sit down and talk with him. On top of all that, he is a great athlete.
