Southwest Conference HOF to posthumously enshrine Terry Price
Among the best, where he belongs.
Terry Price, beloved former Texas A&M defensive end and assistant coach, will be posthumously inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame this October, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame announced Tuesday afternoon.
The honor comes nearly three months after his passing in June at the age of 55.
Price is one of nine inductees for the 2023 class, which includes legendary collegiate figures such as Gary Ashby, Kevin Scanlon and Terry Teagle.
A four-year Aggie letterman (1986-89) recruited by Texas A&M Hall of Fame coaches Jackie Sherrill and R.C. Slocum, Price is remembered as anchoring the program’s legendary “Wrecking Crew” defenses that consistently topped the nation in total defense and rushing defense.
The Atlanta native played no small role in helping guide the Aggies to back-to-back Southwest Conference championships in 1986-87. As a senior, Price recorded 57 tackles with 3.5 quarterback sacks and 14 QB pressures to earn All-SWC honors and honorable mention All-America honors from The Sporting News.
In all, Price compiled 187 tackles in his playing days for Texas A&M.
Price was drafted in the 10th round of the 1990 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears before departing from the league after two years to finish his degree and join Slocum’s staff. As part of his first stint with A&M’s coaching staff, the Aggies claimed Southwest Conference championships in 1992 and 1993.
Making stops at Ole Miss, Auburn and Texas Tech, Price returned to Aggieland under Kevin Sumlin in 2012 and later Jimbo Fisher in 2018. Overall, his SEC coaching career spanned a remarkable 28 seasons, one of the longest tenures in conference history.
Aside from his world-famous barbeque that attracted top recruits from across the nation to College Station, Price was well-known for developing NFL-caliber talents such as Myles Garrett and Damontre Moore.
“TP” undoubtedly leaves an indelible legacy that will now be preserved for perpetuity in the SWC Hall of Fame.
He will take his rightful place among the now-defunct league’s best on Oct. 11 in Waco.
