ESPN sideline reporter Kris Budden will be at Kyle Field this Saturday to cover Texas A&M's SEC showdown with Auburn. On Friday's edition of TexAgs Radio, Budden joined the program to discuss the matchup between the Aggies and the Tigers.
Key notes from Kris Budden interview
- Look at the talent discrepancies between Texas A&M and Auburn. You would not think Auburn would be any sort of threat. Philip Montgomery is figuring it out at OC. Payton Thorne ran the ball last week. He said he hasn't been in a system with designed quarterback runs.
- Auburn had flipped one five-star from Georgia. Auburn has first five-star since 2019, and A&M has had 15. Hugh Freeze has been honest about it.
- There is more to lose than to gain for Texas A&M. There could be a lot of downsides if things don't go according to plan.
- Conner Weigman has spent an entire spring with Bobby Petrino. I asked him about giving up baseball, and he said when Petrino came in, he needed to be there. For all the naysayers last year, it worked out perfectly for Weigman. Let's say he goes out there in Week 1 last year, and he gets his confidence crushed. There is a swaginess and confidence about him for a young kid that is really cool.
- I am on the bad luck climate chain. The field was 156 degrees at the Utah game. I did ask Thorne about the heat because he grew up in Chicago. He said he would rather play in the heat.
- I think for Auburn to win, they have to get pressure up front. They are beaten up in the secondary. If I am A&M, I'm passing. Defensively, you need to get pressure against Weigman.
