Brauny's Best: Highlighting top high school performances from Week 7

The high school football action didn't stop while I was galavanting at a family function in southwest Oklahoma. Even though I wasn't on the road at games, I was able to keep a watchful eye on the high school gridiron on Thursday and Friday nights.

Here's what I was able to gather for this week's version of Brauny's Best.

Texas A&M's Class

Hattiesburg (MS) Oak Grove QB AJ Maddox

  • 20-of-26, 310 yards, 3 touchdowns

*No video available at this time*

It was another extremely efficient week for Maddox as he and his Oak Grove teammates remain unbeaten on the season. In case you haven't been paying attention, Maddox has been exceptionally good this season and should be in the conversation for Player of the Year in Mississippi if he keeps performing the way he has through the first half of the season. I've said it before, but his jump in overall strength has taken his game to another level. He'll still need to add more to his frame, but it's certainly going in the right direction.

The State of Texas

Magnolia ATH Hunter Andrews

  • 20 carries, 275 yards, 5 touchdowns

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Andrews continued his torrid season on the ground with a massive performance against rival Magnolia West. The Utah commit was being recruited primarily as a linebacker but has torn through the defenses in north Houston as a ball carrier this season. He's a fantastic overall athlete who flashes next-level toughness, power and acceleration. This was a fantastic evaluation by the Ute coaching staff. This kid is a football-playing dude.

Our Coverage

2025 North Shore QB Kaleb Bailey

  • 2 passing touchdowns, 2 rushing touchdowns

Since I wasn't at a game, I picked a winner from our coverage this week. Cade Draughon saw the biggest game in Houston as North Shore staved off Summer Creek in a battle of unbeatens. 2025 QB Kaleb Bailey accounted for all four Mustang touchdowns and is looking like he's back to his old ways after missing the entire 2022 season with a knee injury. Bailey being back to full fitness appears to be bad news for the rest of the state as North Shore looks keen on making another run at AT&T Stadium.
