Morrison reflects on first year in Aggieland, talks future of A&M volleyball
In Jamie Morrison's first year in Aggieland, he led the Aggies to a winning record for the first time in three years. Following the season, Morrison joined Tuesday's edition of TexAgs Radio to discuss the totality of the season and where the program is headed.
Key notes from Jamie Morrison interview
- We took the first set against Texas. We came in and said the entire season our goal was to set the tone for what Texas A&M volleyball will be for the entire SEC. We decided to welcome Texas into the SEC. Look through the net and make them think twice about the fact they will win. We came out on fire. That was the best we have played the entire season. They called two timeouts by 12 points. We have to make that happen for longer and longer, and I am excited for the future based on that.
- My first step of this program was to get it back where it has been. It was been a consistent NCAA Tournament team. The next step is playing Texas on Sept. 27. That is our first match of SEC play. Don't know if I am supposed to say that. I want to pack Reed. I want to beat Texas. The other cool thing about that match is it sparked what that rivalry is going to be. I could 100 percent feel it. It was fun. I firmly believe we could build this to be the best rivalry in the sport.
- There are a lot of people who see what is happening.
- I think I took this job like 364 days ago. I don't recommend taking a Division I coaching job a week before Christmas. I feel like a year ago, I jumped out of an airplane and had this rush. I somehow landed on a treadmill that was going 118 mph. I was running, running, running. I was heavily involved in social media, fundraising, and in all aspects of volleyball.
- I am not a finished program. Neither are our athletes or the program. The timing of the transfer portal is interesting. You have some people take their time, and some don't.
- You want to get a human being behind the volleyball player. You want a fit. We will be together a lot. My staff has been working hard to get people on campus.
- I think Caroline Meuth will go play professionally. She has a firm idea of who she wants to be as a human being. She has stayed true to that. She knows I am here for her for the rest of her life.
