Texas A&M set to hire Alabama's Holmon Wiggins as receivers coach
On Tuesday, it was reported that Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is expected to name Alabama's Holmon Wiggins as the next wide receivers coach of the Aggies.
TexAgs' co-owner and executive editor Billy Liucci was first to report the news via X, formerly Twitter.
With SEC experience under his belt, Wiggins, 43, is now headed to Aggieland.
He will join an offensive staff that already includes Trooper Taylor (Associate Head Coach/Running Backs), Collin Klein (Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks) and Adam Cushing (Run Game Coordinator/Offensive Line).
Since 2019, Wiggins has served as Nick Saban's wide receivers coach. In 2020, Wiggins helped DeVonta Smith become the first receiver to win the Heisman Trophy since 1991.
Other Crimson Tide receivers to thrive under Wiggins' tutelage include Jaylen Waddle, Henry Ruggs III, Jameson Williams and Jerry Juedy. Along with Smith, all five stars became first-round selections in the NFL Draft.
During Wiggins' five-year tenure in Tuscaloosa, the Tide made three College Football Playoff appearances and won the 2021 National Championship.
A Los Angeles native, Wiggins played running back at New Mexico (1998-2001) and started his coaching career as a student assistant at his alma mater in 2003.
Other stops along Wiggins' coaching journey include Illinois State (2006-10), Tulsa (2011), Memphis (2012-15) and Virginia Tech (2016-18).
Since 2021, Wiggins has served as Saban's assistant head coach of offense in addition to his receiver duties.
