Summer recruiting is moving full steam ahead, and top Texas prospects are trimming their lists and making their choices. Now it is time to dive into the latest news, notes and headlines.

2026 QB Dia Bell‍ is a Longhorn

2026 TE Ryder Mix‍ announces for Oklahoma

Headlines

TCU loads up on OL – The Horned Frogs are loading up on big boys in the last couple of weeks with three big additions. Boerne (TX) standout Logan Schram‍ announced for TCU over Arkansas and Texas Tech. Sonny Dykes and his crew also grabbed a couple from Louisiana as Witten Van Hoy‍ of Benton and Jackson Jones‍ of Franklinton Pine announced their decisions.

Arkansas taps into Texas – The Razorbacks are no stranger to top Texas prospects, and Sam Pittman and his crew continue to tap into the deep talent pool that is the Lone Star state. Recently, they hit the DFW area for edge defender Keiundre Johnson‍. Then OL coach Eric Mateos flipped former Baylor commit and Carthage (TX) OL Kash Courtney‍ to the Hogs.

Texas playmakers make Big 12 decisions – A couple of 2025 rushers, a standout receiver and one of DFW’s top programs up-and-comers have announced their future plans, and all are heading to the Big 12. 2025 Pflugerville (TX) Weiss RB DJ Dugar‍ announced his commitment to Oklahoma State, while 2025 Crosby (TX) RB Wesley Yarbrough‍ announced for Arizona. Yarbrough will be joined in Arizona by Carrollton (TX) Ranchview WR Terry Shelton‍, and 2026 Southlake Carroll RB Davis Penn‍ announced his plans to be a Baylor Bear.

Smith Orogbo‍ top four – Alief Hastings defender Smith Orogbo is down to four, and he has a decision date on his mind. Making the cut are Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Washington and Texas, and he will make his announcement on July 1.

New name to know

ATH D'Adrian Renfro‍, San Augustine – 2027

At 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, Renfro is quick to draw attention, and then there is his versatility. He is constantly on the field, and whether it is offense, defense or special teams, he is constantly a playmaking threat.

Last fall, he made his varsity debut and played quarterback, running back wide receiver, and then he flipped over to the other side of the ball, where he played safety, corner and even came off the edge at times. Need a return man on special teams? He also has you there.

Renfro is just getting started, but his versatile skillset is already turning heads with offers from Texas Tech and UTEP. He caught Texas A&M’s attention at camp this summer, and it is safe to say more are on the way as coaches get eyes on him.

In addition to football, Renfro also competes in basketball and track, and he has been clocked at 4.54 in the 40-yard dash.
