One-on-One at SEC Media Days with Alyssa Lang of the SEC Network
At 2024 SEC Media Days, SEC Network anchor and sideline reporter Alyssa Lang sat down with Billy Liucci and David Nuño to discuss the rivalry between the Aggies and Longhorns, the Men's College World Series and South Carolina baseball's hire of Paul Mainieri.
Key notes from Alyssa Lang interview
- It’s been a ton of fun. When you are hosting SportsCenter, it feels a little different to do something like that.
- The first SportsCenter show I did, we were coming up with an LSU vs. Texas A&M baseball game. Thank God because that's in my wheelhouse. The next night, they were throwing NHL highlights at me. The nature of the college sports schedule doesn't leave me a lot of time to watch hockey. They didn't try to pull the firearm, but it was a lot of live bullets, if you will.
- It's fun because, usually, the late games end with drama, but I have our SEC Network studios at 2 or 3 a.m. on a Friday. College baseball season is one of the best times of the year.
- Being a part of the SEC family is amazing. I always rely on the SEC folks to keep me humble. Everyone is so supportive, and it really is a family.
- The Men’s College World Series was awesome. The way that Texas A&M still made it to the championship series despite being beaten up. It was dang close. It breaks my heart. There was an extra layer of knowing what A&M had been through. They will be back, and they will be back sooner rather than later.
- It doesn't matter what sport it is. You will use every last moment as motivation when it comes to your rival. I cannot wait for Texas A&M vs. Texas this year. I am reading Aggie and Longhorn tweets and all the smack-talking... It's not even August yet. Imagine what the players will be doing and what is thrown across the field that week. It’s a rivalry like no other.
- Paul Mainieri was unexpected as the baseball hire at South Carolina. I was surprised. He retired for a reason. He is not on the younger side. As I listen to him speak, I have only gotten more and more excited for the Mainieri era to begin. I’m excited.
