Brauny's Best: Highlighting top high school performances from Week 3
Another slate of games is in the books, and as part of our coverage, here's the Week 3 edition of Brauny's Best, where I highlight top performances in the high school football world.
Texas A&M's Class
2025 Jasper ATH Kiotti Armstrong
- 5 receptions, 116 yards, 1 receiving touchdown, 1 rushing touchdown
Click on those highlights and just watch the first play. There aren't many 6-foot-6, 265-pounders moving like that, which is a big reason why Armstrong is so highly regarded as a prospect. There's also a few clips in there of him playing Wildcat quarterback in short yardage scenarios where he even logged a rushing touchdown this week in a win over Lumberton. I heard multiple times from members of the Jasper staff this summer that Armstrong has begun to take the next step in terms of his mentality and preparation. It appears to be paying off early this season.
The State of Texas
2026 Cuero QB Jaxxon Marie
- 264 passing yards, 5 passing touchdowns, 198 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns
In case you struggle with math, the above stat line totals 462 total yards and nine touchdowns. That'll get the job done, especially in a rivalry game win over Yoakum. One of my favorite aspects of small-town football is how versatile the stat sheet can be because the kids are typically asked to do a little bit more. The only other element to Marie's night that could have made it more impressive was if he chipped in with a few tackles on defense. Still, that's a wildly productive night for the Gobblers.
My Coverage
2026 C.E. King ATH Dionne Sims
- 11 rushes, 216 yards, 3 touchdowns, 270 all purpose yards
That's an eye-catching stat line as is, but it gets enhanced even more when you consider Sims didn't play a single snap in the second half of a 42-0 blowout victory over Spring Dekaney. The junior do-it-all playmaker scored as a quarterback and running back while also having a couple of catches and a 40+ yard kickoff return. As a prospect, he's an interesting player to follow. He logged an offer from Oregon early in high school career and has some intriguing numbers on the track. He's still a little slight, but he's noticeably bigger as a junior than he was as a sophomore. Sims has plenty of juice though, and it was on display last Thursday night.
