Brauny's Best: Highlighting top high school performances from Week 4
Another week of high school football means it’s time for another rendition of Brauny’s Best where I pick out some top performances across the state and sometimes the country. Let’s get started.
Texas A&M’s Class
2025 Danville (CA) San Ramon Valley OLB Marco Jones
- 12 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks
I don’t know that the A&M fan base quite realizes what kind of player the Aggies have in Marco Jones. The highlights above should help. This kid has got big time juice off the edge and plays with an outstanding motor. He has also really improved in his overall arsenal of pass-rush moves. His get-off and suddenness combine to put him in the backfield an awful lot. Then, his overall athleticism plus an apparent willingness to chase the football results in high tackle totals. Jones is also a smart kid both on and off the field. I like this kid a lot.
The State of Texas
2027 Brenham RB Jakoby Dixon
- 20 carries, 291 yards, 7 rushing touchdowns
The sensational sophomore back from Blue Bell Country is starting to put together some rather impressive stat lines now four weeks into the season. It’ll be hard to top what he did against Killeen though — averaging nearly 15 yards per tote and scoring a touchdown for every day in the week. He runs with such violence and power. It’s easy to see why he’s emerging as one of the top running backs in Texas in what looks like an absolutely loaded class for the position in the state early on. I’m hoping to see him in person at some point later this fall.

2025 A&M Consolidated QB Will Hargett
- 5-21 passing, 154 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown
- 9 rushes, 134 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown
Will Hargett looked a lot like his grandfather, Edd, on Friday night in a rivalry win over College Station. His completion percentage isn’t anything to write home about, but drops played a significant role in that number. Still, he connected on a couple of massive throws, including a 93-yard strike to start the scoring for A&M Consolidated. In the second half, he made huge plays with his legs and iced the game on a 37-yard touchdown run with under a minute to play. The win propelled the Tigers into the top five of the 5A Division I state rankings.
