The 2024 season is in full swing, but college coaches never stop heating up the recruiting trails. The action has been moving at a rapid pace across the state of Texas, and now it is time to take a look at the latest news, notes and headlines from across the Lone Star recruiting landscape.

Taz Williams out for the year – The Red Oak standout and Baylor commit announced last week he will have surgery to repaire a meniscus injury and will be out for the rest of the season. In two games, he posted 15 receptions for 151 yards and two touchdowns. He also had two carries for 33 yards.
Offers continue to mount for Nelson McGuire – Last week, the Midlothian offensive lineman received an offer from Texas A&M. Since the start of August, the 6-foot-4, 320-pound standout has welcomed offers from Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Clemson, TCU and now A&M. In early June he committed to Minnesota before reopening his process at the end of the month, and he also holds scholarship offers from Arkansas, Arkansas State, Baylor, Boston College, Houston, Kansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, UNT, SMU, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UNLV and UTEP.
Quentin Gibson going off - North Crowley standout is off to one of the most explosive starts of the season on one of the hottest teams in the state. North Crowley is 4-0 with wins over Lancaster, DeSoto, Denton Guyer and Rockwall, and Gibson is making waves after recording 24 receptions for 589 yards and 13 TDs. That is over 24 yards a receptions and almost 150 yards a game with a TD every other time he touches the ball. At 5-foot-8, 165 pounds, offers are beginning to roll in with Arkansas State, UNLV, UTEP, TCU, Colorado State, Incarnate Word, Nevada, Stephen F Austin and Texas State since the start of the season. He also holds offers from Prairie View A&M, Illinois State and Army.
Big game, big recruiting weekend – The Dallas-Fort Worth area will host two of the biggest college matchups in the Lone Star State this weekend as Texas A&M takes on Arkansas at AT&T Stadium in Arlington and SMU welcomes Florida State for an ACC matchup at Ford Stadium. In addition to those games, every power conference program in the state will be at home. Baylor welcomes BYU, Texas hosts Mississippi State, Houston faces Iowa State and Texas Tech matches up against Cincinnati. It is safe to say there will be quite a few prospects on the road this weekend.
New name to know
DL Jaimeon Winfield, Richardson – 2026
The 6-foot-3.5, 280-pound prospect arrived in Richardson this summer with little to no fanfare, but that is now changing. The Meridian (MS) move-in has made his presence felt in the trenches this fall, and word is spreading quickly.
He has been a violent disruptor for the Eagle defense, and with football role models such as Aaron Donald and Chris Jones, his explosive style makes sense.
He comes off the ball low and quick. He works his hands. Then comes his power. With a bench press max of 330 pounds and a squat max of 450, he is able to extend, separate and discard opponents with ease.
He also uses a variety of moves to defeat double and triple teams, and when he gets into the backfield — which is often — he finishes strong.
All in all, he is an athletic interior defender with the ability to get down the line in a hurry and put pressure in the backfield, which is always in high demand.
Despite not attending any college camps this summer, attention is quickly heading his way. As of Sept. 13, he had no offers, but less than two weeks later, he is piling them high.
USC offered on Sept. 14, and offers have also arrived from SMU, UTSA, Missouri, TCU, Miami and most recently Georgia Tech.
