Recruiting Country: The latest recruiting news surrounding the Maroon & White
TexAgs' recruiting analyst Jason Howell joined TexAgs Live on Wednesday morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail surrounding Texas A&M.
Key notes from Recruiting Country
- Mike Elko has done a masterful job putting together one of the top classes in the country. He has addressed just about every need. They did it in short order. They made priorities and stuck to their board. They did not go reaching. They addressed depth. On the offensive line, you have guys that can play up and down the line. There are a couple of guys that can bring explosiveness on offense.
- No doubt about it. Wide receiver is the one position you must circle and find a difference maker in the transfer portal. You need a guy who can immediately come in and make a difference. Even if you sign a five-star guy, there is a chance he will not be that guy in year one. Your chance of finding that instant difference maker is in the transfer portal as much as it is in anything else.
- Lamont Rogers just wrapped up his season last night. He has been on A&M's radar since the beginning of the cycle, even when he committed to Missouri in July. We said to put a pin in this one. We wanted to see how it developed over the course of the season. We have seen him take a couple of trips back to College Station. We have seen the A&M staff remain in communication.
- There seems to be a lot of mutual interest there with Rogers. Texas A&M seems to be moving in a positive direction. It is not just us feeling that way. A&M has a good shot there. I don't have a definite timeline, but it would not surprise me if things started to happen one way or the other in short order, especially now that his season is over.
- Things with Michael Fasusi have started to pick up in the last month. You saw Texas come in with a helicopter last week, and you saw Oklahoma on the sidelines. He brought up Texas A&M to reports after the game just to remind them that he likes Texas A&M, too. We got word that Adam Cushing will be watching Lewisville this weekend.
- I don't think it's likely that you'll end up with both of these guys, but I think there's a really good shot that you'll get one or the other.
- Xavier Tiller is an exceptional athlete at the tight end position. He is a natural pass-catcher, quick to locate and adjust to the ball, and runs routes like a wide receiver. At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, he is a giant target. There is a reason he has been highly regarded and sought after by top programs across the country. He is a dynamic player and a willing blocker.
- You will see the state of Texas bear quite a bit of fruit in the 2026 class. The Aggies have been very active across the state. They are positioning themselves well with many guys.
- John Turntine, an offensive lineman out of North Crowley, was being written off to Austin already. That is not necessarily the case. They have made up ground for some guys that were written off elsewhere.
- They have solidified their standing with some guys that were already interested. KJ Ford has made multiple visits. You have Jalen Lott and Kaydon Finley. Jermaine Bishop was just in town. You can go down the list of the top 2026 recruits in Texas, and A&M has put in a lot of work to be in on the guys they feel they need to be in on.
- Texas A&M has started big in the 2026 class with a playmaker at wide receiver in Aaron Gregory. They hit on the defensive line and quarterback as well. They have done a great job building momentum and establishing cornerstones in that class.
