Trisha Ford & Co. rise to No. 5 in latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll
On the rise.
Following a 5-0 weekend at the JoAnne Graf Classic in Tallahassee, Texas A&M moved up to No. 5 in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll.
Not only did the Aggies have a perfect weekend in the Sunshine State, the Maroon & White took down then-No. 8 Florida State twice. The Seminoles stayed put at No. 8.
In game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, A&M climbed out of a 3-0 deficit to claim a victory in extra innings. After Emiley Kennedy gave up six hits in three innings of work, Ole Miss transfer Grace Sparks was able to shut down the Seminoles offense while the Aggies heated up.
A solo shot from Allie Enright and a two-run double by Mac Barbara later tied the game up. The Aggies pulled out the eight-inning affair with clutch two-out hitting, 6-3.
The offense remained hot in game two against the ACC foe.
A six-run second inning grabbed ahold of the lead early, and the Aggies never looked back. Florida State scored in the fifth and seventh frames, but the Aggies took the contest 11-4.
A&M also swept the doubleheader against Florida A&M on Friday and walked off Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday.
Under Trisha Ford, Texas A&M softball has made unbelievable strides as a program in a loaded softball conference.
The Aggies are one of 12 SEC teams inside the top 25, along with No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Texas, No. 3 Florida, No. 6 LSU, No. 7 Tennessee, No. 11 Georgia, No. 12 Arkansas, No. 19 Auburn, No. 20 Mississippi State, No. 21 South Carolina and No. 22 Alabama.
Back in Aggieland, the Maroon & White will host the Texas A&M Invitational, facing Texas State, George Washington, No. 12 Texas Tech and Idaho State before the SEC gauntlet begins.
