Texas A&M's Amari Harper named SEC's co-Player of the Week
Harper is heating up.
On Tuesday, Texas A&M utility player Amari Harper was named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Player of the Week after a stellar weekend at the plate.
The Aggie shares the honor with Oklahoma’s Gabbie Garcia, and this represents Harper’s first weekly honor in her career.
Harper led A&M’s charge in the batter's box, hitting a ridiculous .712 (5-for-7) with five RBIs in a three-game set against then-No. 22 Auburn as the Aggies swept the Tigers on The Plains.
The junior's contributions allowed A&M to secure a rare road sweep of a ranked Southeastern Conference opponent — the Maroon & White’s first since 2017.
Harper's most impressive appearance of the weekend came in Saturday's 13-2 run rule of the Tigers, as the Corona, Calif. native tallied her first three-hit game of the season, recording a pair of RBI via solo home run and single.
Battling injury throughout the season, Harper has seen the fewest at-bats of the everyday starters (34). Yet, she leads the Maroon & White in batting average (.412) and has quickly found a way to impact Trisha Ford's loaded roster.
She looks to do more against in another SEC series this weekend, as No. 6 A&M will host No. 24 Alabama for a three-game set at Davis Diamond beginning on Friday, March 21, at 6 p.m. CT.
