Key notes from Isaiah Horton interview

  • Spring has been going great. The team is looking great on both sides of the ball. The coaches are doing a great job, and everything is coming together the way it’s supposed to.

  • Football is football everywhere. It’s just that different schemes call it different things. It’s not much harder or more difficult to adjust. I’m not comfortable because I never want to be comfortable. I’m getting a better grasp on it.

  • I made a couple of plays in scrimmages, but that’s what I’m supposed to do. I have room to improve. Spring is going great. Marcel Reed has been great, and so has the offensive line. The other receivers and everyone are coming together, which has been great.

  • I have sneaky speed, especially for my size. You might see me as a bigger receiver, but I have speed to me where I can take the top off. I can run the dig routes. I’m not afraid to go in the middle. I’m not afraid to do whatever you need me to do.

  • In the receiver corps, Ashton Bethel-Roman might win a race. After him, it’s probably Mario Craver, and after that, it would probably be a tie. They say Jayden Warren ran a 10.2, so he might be No. 3. I know I’m top five.

  • Craver is a ball player. He has been having a great spring. He has been a leader. He’s experienced. He’s starting to grasp it and understand that there’s not too much you have to do different because there aren’t that many coverages. It’s not like a linebacker can cover him in the slot. He’s so explosive, and he’s so hard to bring down.

  • Terry Bussey reminds me of a Deebo Samuel. You can put him wherever. He has had a good spring. Bussey is a guy on the rise, and he can go anywhere.

  • The freshmen have been doing a great job. They came in with the mindset of wanting to play. They make mistakes, but they don’t make them twice. They’re learners. They understand it, and they want it. Aaron Gregory is making catches you expect from veterans because of his body control. It’s not just him. It’s Warren, Mike Brown and Madden Williams, too.

  • Reed is a great guy. He has a great heart. He’s a great human being. You’ll never see him mad. He defends his players. He’s not afraid to speak up for his players or when something is wrong. He takes accountability for his actions. The next-play mentality with him is great, and you have to have that as a quarterback because we’re always looking at him.

  • Bussey and I were talking earlier today because he wants me to speak more. I didn’t want to come in and be that guy. They know who I am, and I know who I am. Still, I’m a humble guy. I want to go out on Saturday and have a good game. I’m not really talking right now. I want to lead by example and let my actions speak. I am an open book, so I’ll talk to you. I’ll be more vocal as the season goes on.

  • Wilkin Formby is doing great. He’s overly cool. He has a great heart. He’s a hard worker. Committed. A man of God, and that’s a big thing for our locker room too. We have guys who want to get closer to the Lord, and Formby is a great example of that. He’s consistent with it, and that’s not an easy thing to do. Every day, he’s about it. I had the blessing to be with him at Alabama, so I’m happy for the guys here to see who he is.

  • I go against Adonyss Currie and Julio Humphrey every day, and they both give me good work. They’re good players. Chance Collins, in the safety room, has been great, and he’s just a freshman. Myles Davis and Tawfiq Byard have been doing a great job, too. We have so many great players in their own way, so we just have to put them in the right places.

Good things to say about a lot of guys but comparing Bussey to Deebo Samuel was most interesting.

Isaiah Horton had great things to say about much of the team, but his comparison of Terry Bussey to Debo Samuel was the most intriguing.
