Men’s 10,000. I predicted about 4 points from sophomore Andrew Montes but we did not get any. None of the other top contenders got any points either. Colorado swept the top 5 places. Andrew ran over 2 minutes slower than his best time this season – altitude effects probably.

Men’s Hammer. Predicted none; got none.

Women’s javelin. Predicted 17 points; got 23 points. This is a huge 6 point pick up. Congrats!!

Women’s hammer. Predicted none; got none.

Women’s 10,000. Predicted none, got 1 point – sophomore Sarah Balfour. Every point counts.

Unless the bus gets lost on the way to the meet the women will win. I am guessing it will be by more than 30 points and I am being conservative.

The men should win as well. We are top ranked nationally coming in and while that doesn't necessarily predict success at conference you only need to look at the conference list to see that we should win. It will probably be much closer than the women. Our sprinters are the key on the men's side. The conference is not overly deep there and we should score a ton. Texas should not be much of a factor as they have been killed by injuries.

should we be worried about the men yet? I don't know much about T&F, but I know we need the points for the LSS.

I went to big12sports.com this morning to check the status of the teams and was concerned that the men aren't even on the board yet...

The link you provided helps reassure me as there are plenty of events left for us to make up those points.

Below is a fair approximation of the final points. However, anything can and will happen at any track meet.

Projected Final Point Totals:

Men:
Aggies – 143
Host Colorado – 114
TT – 99

Women:
Aggies – 157
Nebraska – 98
Oklahoma – 97
TT – 95

Men have lost a projected point in the decathlon and four projected points in the 10,000.

Women have not lost any projected points. They have gained 1 point in the heptathlon, 1 point in the 10,000, and 6 points in the javelin. They received 25 points from these three events, but were projected to earn only 17.

So, if this happens, we can win the Lone Star Challenge even if we lose to the sips in baseball.......!

Final Projections at the end of Saturday’s events.

Men:
Aggies – 143
Colorado – 119 [gaining ground]
TT – 94

Women:
Aggies – 157
Nebraska – 104
TT – 100
Oklahoma - 84

Lots of strategy shuffling by coaches. Six of the top 10 women’s 1500 runners did not run the 1500. Makes final predictions hard to predict.

MidTnAg,

I see your top 3 predictions on the men do not include UT. Is there any real possibility (not counting DQs, dropped batons, etc...I know stuff like that can make any prediction tough) we finish behind them to lose the LSS?

If the Aggie Men place second or third I will be surprised. During the past 3 or 4 years we usually finsih in the bottom half. I don't see how anyone thinks we are going to win, especially by a large margin. Being ranked #1 in the country means nothing in a large conference meet. It is more meaningful in the NCAA Championships.

RC, our best events tally points on Sunday, so we are in an expected position right now. It's like entering a home run hitting contest where HRs are tallied by team. Other teams put their sluggers to the plate on the first couple of at bats. We have saved ours for the final day, so catching and passing many teams (those strong in the field sports like NU) is not uncommon.
