I think northgater is correct. It was going to be close at the Big 12 meet, where depth has a whole lot to do with how you finish. Our team will be a strong competitor for the national title even though a little behind CU at the conference meet.

Yes, but conference does not mean anything in that. It's national.

National ranking is more of a prediction of how you will do at Nationals...not at any one given meet.

National rankings are based upon how you will do in the NCAA meet, not conference meets. So it is based off of being pretty good at many events instead of just a few.

That is correct Wrec, however this is based on national times. Some of these other schools that are placing in the Big XII now will not place nationally. There may also be a limit to the number of entrants. Someone else can explain that part.

They are running the 5000, which is the longest race of the day. That is why their is a delay in posting results

We finished 9th at the Big 12 Outdoor meet last year. I'll take a bump up to second this year with a legitmate shot to bring home a national title.

CU gets their 32 in the men's 5000.

Don't get me wrong, I want a men's Big 12 championship too. But would like a national championship a little more if I had to choose.

In some ways the coaches have to aim to win either the conference or national titles. If they give partial scholarships wisely, they can score a lot of points and win the conference. To win the national title, you have to give more full scholarships to folks who can win at the NCAA meet. But that hurts you at conference because you don't have as many people finishing 5th, 6th etc, because you already used up your scholarships.

CU got 32 in the 5000. That should wrap things up for them.

The 5000M should be about 15 minutes.

If you would go back over all the results up until this meet, you would see why we were easily supposed to win this meet.

We did not perform today as we have in the past. It was mostly a united effort (or lack of effort) for some unknown reason.

We had too many sub-par efforts whereas Colorado had many performances that surpassed their previous ones.

TAMC66, why is that funny?

Its the altitude and maybe attitude from travel.
Colorado scored 65 of their points in just 2 events.
