Phelps.

Phelps = the best swimmer we will see in our lifetime. And he's not done.

I'm old enough to remember Spitz - who probably won his races by even bigger margins than Phelps (3 body lengths in his 200 fly). But the world of swimmng is vastly more competitive today and Phelps is world class in every stroke but breaststroke and distances between 100 and 400 meters. Even his breaststroke is VERY good, just not top 10-20 in the world. It was a joy to watch him race.

It's amazing to think he could have medaled in 400 free and the backstrokes as well. I hope he does indeed come back in 2012. Maybe not doing the 8/8 thing again...but enough to nab that highest ever career medal record (18 I think?).

My guess is that he will swim about 6 events in 2012, kinda like Coughlin did this year. He seems too competitive to at least not swim less than 5.

I'd like to see Phelps bury the 200 IM record out of reach for 5-10 years.

He really needs to erase any individual WR held by a tu swimmer. That means 100 back (Peirsol) and 100 fly (Crocker).

Did he say he was done with the 400 IM or the 200 IM?

400IM no more....

Apparently Phelps and his coach have decided to take about 5 months off after the Olympics. I don't think he will train again until February from the report I heard. A very well deserved break.

Yeah he deserves a break. Not to mention it's $$$ time!
