ag09 -- Isn't there one session where they do the relay first? It's either Thursday or Friday (200FR/400MR), but I can't remember which one...

OK - I didn't know there was a limit of 3 individual events. That seems ridiculously low. Yet the psych sheet allows more entries than allowed.

That changes lots of things.

<diving>
800 FR (last event)

Thu:
200 FR (first event)

Fri:
400 MR (first event)
<indiv. events>

Sat:
<indiv. events>
400 FR (last event)

That's why I said on the other thread that the psyche sheet is useless other than to see if someone is hurt and not competing...we won't know anything solid until wednesday night/thursday morning...the picture will clear up a ton at that point

"I am SOOOOO looking forward to this week and have been for a long time. This will be a true battle between two heavyweights."

What're you trying to say? kidding.

"Any ideas on what guys will make the meet?"

My predictions:

200 MR
400 MR
possibly the 800 Free Relay. There seems to be a solid batch of freestylers this year. Will Omar be on the relay? It'll be interesting to see who they put up on the 1st day of the meet.
200 Fr

Butterfly- Loncaric, Welch could pull a solid 1 fly out.
Backstroke- Bergstrom, Denisyako
Breaststroke- I think it will be a toss up between all three of the breaststrokers. It could be possible that two go just from being on different relays. Who has the fastest times so far this season?
Freestyle- Makany, Strange, Dalton (relay?), Enriquez

I like the way you think Situation. That would be a HECK of a showing at NCs for the men. I would not be surprised one bit to see that happen

The 200 FR will most likely have the hardest time getting to the meet. I see Strange and Bergstrom have split 19s this year but who is next in line?

Whoever anchored against t.u...was it Dalton? Too lazy to look it up.

I'd love to see what you have said happen, situation80. Guys NCAA swimming in general this season is really unpredictable, and we all know what a great taper our guys always have, but that makes it hard to know exactly who's going to qualify. All those guys definitely have a good chance though! The ideal would be to just get in a bunch of relays, and then all of those guys make it. But with how hard NCAA "B" cuts in relays has been this year (even for t.u.) who knows what will happen!

Aside from the obvious, who do you guys think will surprise and qualify for the girls?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what some of the freshmen do (on both the men's and women's teams). We know 'somewhat' what to expect from the returnees but that first collegiate taper is almost like unwrapping a present for the freshmen. Some will do things they didn't think possible. Not knowing which ones is part of what makes this so fascinating. There's simply no way to predict it.

It's game time. Time for a bump.

Any thoughts on the relays tonight?

Did anyone else think the picture in the Eagle was a little provocative? Good article..wish it had been more team oriented since the big meet starts today and it is a team event, but still a good article...just not too fond of the picture as a representation of the A&M Women's Swimming and Diving Team.

Is that the picture you are talking about?

Yes.. Maybe I am just too "Mom-like", but as a parent, I would not want that to be the picture that represents an entire team of girls, it just seems like they could have chosen one of her in action or smiling not making a "face" at the camera.

I think the girls will win the 800 free relay. Wouldn't it be fun to watch them stick Heiss and Wilkinson in the 3 and 4 spots, and watch them lay the wood on the back half of the relay. Might not be the best strategy, but it would be a heck of a thing to watch!

If I had to guess, I'd think Wilkinson will probably sit out the medley. I hate to say it, but I think t.u. is going to pick that one up.

mom, I kinda see what you mean. First of all, I don't think it's a very good picture of her. But they've done pictures like this of all of the girls.

It's kinda something young girls do. When they're trying to be attractive, they make funny faces.

Also, newspapers get more buzz out of focusing on human interest stories, rather than the whole team. They're just more interesting stories to the 90% of the population not interested in swimming. Not a religious reader, but I assume the recaps (or previews if they run them) will be more team-focused.

Swimmom - the eagle usually picks one person to profile before big meets and avoids a 'team' story for lack of a better word...right or wrong, it's just how they elect to do things...I am glad we have so many special athletes like Jaele for them to choose from...i don't think the pic is too inappropriate...it's an attractive, fit young woman posing in a swimsuit...it's just something we're not used to seeing on the front of the sports page...as far as why they picked that specific facial expression I have no idea...the important thing is that the piece as a whole generates interest for the meet and I think that goal was accomplished

I'm calling 1:38 low and 7:00 to win the races...I'm not going to make any predictions but I think both teams have the ability to throw down those times...can't wait to see it!

I didn't think it was that bad personally, but I agree LOB I'm glad it got an interest buzzing for the meet. Hopefully the guys and girls will have a great Aggie crowd show up for their meet. Relays and diving tonight? How do yall think they will do on both sides?

"watch them lay the wood on the back half of the relay."

interesting choice of words... But, yes, that would be quite the back half.

I see no problem with the photo. She is an attractive athlete and I do not think it is especially provocative. It is good for A&M.

I agree A&M's women should win the 800 relay. If JW doesn't swim the 200 medley tu wins easily.

Atkinson > Sogar (.3 sec)
Chernoff < Hersey (.5 sec)
Sommer = Bispo

After the medley relays....

Men were impressive. Bergstrom beat Cragin; Loncaric beat Taylor. The difference was Feigen.

Women w/o JW lost. Alia decidely over Sogar. Hersey whipped Doerge. Anyone notice Sarah Wood out-split Sommer in the free leg?

Man, that was a heck of a way to start off the meet for the guys. tied the school record in the medley, and got the NC Auto cut. Feigens 18.4 split was absolutely sick. Casey was flying, and Feegy just pulled away. nasty. Balazs broke his own school record by over a second in the 200 leading off, 2 freshman in the middle with 1:37s, and Boris with 1:36.0 anchor. First time in a LOOOOOOONG time that we've ever had any sort of thought (serious or comical) about swimming that relay at an NCAA meet. VERY nice swimming guys. This is gonna be a fun weekend!

Julia freaking MOWED DOWN hersey on that relay, it was disgusting. forgive me for doubting that she could catch up, let alone win by almost a second.

JW erased most of Hersey's lead on the 1st 50. Great swim. Who else was on the relay? The names are absent on the realtime results.

The men's 800 was obviously the best ever. I didn't watch the race. But tu's depth in 200 freestylers is once again amazing.

Spice it was Heiss to Hain to McLaine to Julia

ag09 is correct...Julia did Hersey just plain skid marks in your drawers dirty (and Hersey swam pretty damn good!)...that being the last thing they see can't be good for the psyche of the Texas team knowing their superwoman might have just found her kryptonite...the 200 IM tomorrow will be AMAZING if those two are in it...

I was not impressed with Gingrich tonight...Hain went blow for blow with her on second leg...Riefenstahl looked good tho on third

Guys relays were awesome too...big props to the freshmen for stepping up on the 800 FR and if Texas didn't have Feigen that 200 MR was A&M's to lose

GREAT GREAT start to the meet...This will be a fantastic meet!
