I am trying to get into it a bit because I like the cars and speed. But it seems as if the pole qualifier is all but assured to.win. there is hardly any passing which makes it a 2 hr race where the winner is determined by lap 5.

How are Americans supposed to watch that when we see passing every lap in mascar or Indy?

I can't get into it. I've followed MotoGP for years, but it's becoming a 3 man show now with an occasional underdog win...much like F1. World Superbike is a lot more exciting to watch and many of the races come down to the final lap or two.

I quit following F1 when Jackie Stewart retired. Most tracks don't lend themselves very to television and trackside views never let you see the entire course. I used to thoroughly enjoy going to the USGP at Watkins Glen, spending the weekend, walking the entire track during the course of the race. The sport has changed so much since the days of the greats....

Jackie Stewart was my hero growing up. I raced formula fords in my youth and fancied myself a young flying Scotsman. He was a true champion and visionary. F1 is not the death race that it used to be because of him.

We're going to get a race in Texas now. I posted earlier in the year that the event was off and I think I was right at the time. From what I understand it came down to a last minute nod and wink from the the State of Texas that event funds would be available. Regardless, glad I was wrong and we're going to get a race in Texas for the first time since the disaster in Dallas in '84.

Dallas disaster literally or figuratively? I vaguely recall an event in Dallas. What happened?

It was in July at the Texas State Fair, so you can image that it was like 105 and the asphalt didn't fare too well.

I would consider going to the race here, but I'm expecting the email with ticket prices to go straight into the garbage bin with a laugh when it gets here. What would be more fun, IMo would be just going to Austin for the weekend, but you're talking about paying $700 a night (and really there are no vacancies now) or staying like in georgetown at a roach motel.

Indianaag, I loved the track at the speedway. It was racey and fan friendly. The 1-2 complex and 11 were the best overtaking zones in the series. As a life long Texan I hope the Austin track becomes a standard. I've been to the site and I think it looks racey as well, we'll see.

Remember Indy '05 when all the Goodyear teams pitted after the outlap? Cry me a river, put on your big boy pants and build something that works. I think NASCAR is the lowest form of motorsports but they have that on us, those cars finish races. Unless of course one of those 5' 4", 125# hillbilly s decides to turn someone and start "the big one."

I think the new IRL bodywork is hideous, but it does protect the tires from wheel to wing cut downs. Unless your name is Rahal and you block Andretti and Andrettii goes flying over your car and several others on his way to te runoff. You receive a suspension (to be served after the 500, because your name is Rahal)

I love American open wheel racing, but it is a joke now.

Went to my first F1 in 1978 in Long Beach. Went to the indY F1 three times. Going to Le Mans next month! I raced in endurance racing based here in Florida.

This year is crazy F1. a lot of passing . 5 teams have won. It's very unusual but much better this year for spectators.

Indiana, it looked like more people there than has been in a while. Batmobile, nice, we'll see if it helps in the race, I think it's been pretty effective so far.
The first two rows over 225. I'm going with a sleeper, the Fisher entry at P7, Newgarden. He has looked pretty racey and stable all month.
Did her other entry make it? I forget who it was. I like to pull for the underfunded, underdog teams.
Jealous, wish I was there this year.

Nascar = bumper car racing! Can't get into INDYCAR, don't get the points systems and they sometimes go on ovals,,,,how much more boring can it get and what waste of a sophisticated suspension. Senna once said if he was to go to INDY it would be simple to win, just hang around near the front and win it in the last couple of laps (something like that)

F-1 this year has been the best in a long time, miss the days of Senna, Mansell and Prost battling it out with Williams, McLaren and less so Ferrari back then. Senna leaving Lotus was the beginning of demise of Chapman, I think, they just couldn't get a competitive car going after he left the team for McLaren.

Quit watching after Senna's death and I can't stand Schumacher or Ferrari so that put me off for a while.

Started paying more attention last few years and though I've liked McLaren I'm glad to see my all time favorite Lotus resurgent again, though I know it's not the same entity. Pulling for Kimi, the man is almost as good as Senna at improving what he has for a car, but I have to admit Schumacher brought Ferrari back from the doldrums. No one will ever be as good as Senna in the rain.

Have to admit I sometimes pull for Webber and Alonzo but can't stand Vettle, maybe I just don't like Germans???

Monaco should be great this weekend.

Somebody won from the pole in a F1 race? Shocking! Simply shocking!

Pole was given to Webber by rules, pole position actually won to Schumacher, so yea technically pole starter won the race, but if you watched, it was well executed team work with pit stop, tire changes, the weather and mishaps on the track.

Sixth different winner in same number of races.

This is the best f1 season in years. I love the fact that Lotus is back on the box. But what is it with their Indy package, they've already parked both of their cars. 105%, they're junk. Btw I think Marco wins the race.

I love F1, to me it just does not get better then that!

Obviously we all have different taste and likes. I like watching the Indy 500 but that's it!! But to be honest the new cars look retarded(again just my taste)

Marco Andretti is a winney little biotch. He had a car today but he doesn't have the ability to handle adversity. Grandpa is the only one with stones in that family.

Sato effed that up. A little bit of patience would have won that race. Not a fan of Mr. or Mrs. Judd.

And Sato was crying about being forced over the line, BS, he lost it and trying to blame Franchitti.

Yes, Judd is a useful idiot.

I just saw the end of the race, heard that Franchitti proved Senna correct. Too many re-starts in IndyCar, too many chances to negate what a driver and his team has done for most of the race to earn a position. That's what has always turned me off of Indy, much less NASCAR, where you can hit another car with mechanical impunity, usually.

Tickets are on sale now. I'll probably do general admission. I wish I was rich and could afford grandstands, but alas I'm a poor.

Big F1 fan. That said, I'm going to observe the first Austin race from a distance to see what the traffic is like before I plunk down my coin for a ticket.

Looking forward to Indycar coming back to Houston. The course is pretty bad, but seeing those cars that close is just unreal.

Best F1 season in years. Watched the first 20 laps of Canada (had a prior engagement, my parents 60th), very racy, lots of passing on the track and in the pits. I still think Vettel and RBR take the driver and manufacturer. But it’s great to see Lotus back on the box for the first time in decades and Ferrari is back in the mix. Perez in a Sauber? How cool is that? My son raced against him in karts, lots of talent and lots of money. Good stuff. Young Rosberg and Raikkonen also look pretty sporty.
Props to the IRL, I told my sons before Texas that someone would die tonight, but they got a handle on the cars and made it a pretty good race. Graham, (who my son also raced against in karts) really goofed that up. It was good to see someone besides Penske or Ganassi win a race.
Looking forward to Silverstone, Austin and Houston in 2013.

Three teams in the mix for the constructors championship, RBR, McLaren, and Mercedes with Lotus and Ferrari having an outside shot. Got to give Vettle, Hamilton the best chances with outside shot at it to Alonso and Roseberg maybe Grosjean in the Lotus at the Drivers Championship.

I'de like a burnish on another one on this.

Vitruvian, dig the Lotus badge. I have no idea how to do that. Can you post the Mark IV, the most beautiful form to ever grace our tracks. How about a prancing pony for our friends from Maranello (and my kids who are huge Ferrari fans.)
