Didn't phelps say he was done with the 400IM after 2008? What or when did he change his mind?

McElhany also had the 2nd fastest 2nd 50, behind only Vollmer.

Very nice swim by Ashley Adams - 2nd in her heat out of lane 1. Very strong 2nd half.

Blue star for her.

Henry pops a 4:40.72 400 IM to finish 2nd in her heat behind Leverenz. Sure to make finals with that. Camille up next.

Both make finals

Camille goes 4:39.84 for 3rd seed tonight. About +1 sec from her seed time. Right behind Leverenz. Henry seeded 5th. I think Beisel cruised her race, Leverenz a bit too. I think Camille will have to go 4:32 to get in.

For those keeping track at home, fifth is the highest any A&M swimmer has ever placed at trials (Heiss, 200 back, 2008). That is about to change.

Incredible morning for Adams, Henry and McElhany. Stevo continues to work his magic.

C'mon Caroline -- you can do it -- make your Mustang and Aggie families proud! We're behind you.

If she can put together a first 50, she can beat any girl in the field save Vollmer. Even Coughlin.

I was in a relay with Dana vollmer's brother last week...

We won. :-)

I was damned impressed with Caroline's swim last night. She had the slowest first 50 of the top 8. Even slower than Hersey, who is a natural 200 flyer. Caroline's swims have been:

59.79(seed)> 58.89> 58.51

Can she drop another 0.4?

I think Coughlin may be in trouble in 100 fly (unless she is SOOO confident she could hold back in semis). She has looked good on the walls.

Camille's 400 IM was another great swim. She needs 4-5 secs on breaststroke to take the next step.

I do NOT understand why Camille didn't scratch the 400 free today. She raced 800M yesterday, and has a real chance to go to London in the 200 fly. I do not see why shed doesn't take this opportunity to rest since the 200 fly is Wednesday???

It is likely only one extra race as it is a prelim to final. One extra 400 isn't going to kill her. And it's not like she has to go max capacity in prelims/semis in the 200 fly.

Yeah but......there is just no need (in my opinion). She has three 200 fly races in the next 48 hours. Why race a 400 before that? Her 400 IM time was slightly slower than what she entered OTs with (in other words she didn't drop from January). I'm shocked she doesn't want a bit more rest.

On another note. Dax Hill didn't make semis in the 200. Swam a horrible race. So bad that I think he must be sick.

Women's 2Fly is Thursday- Friday. She has all Wednesday off.

She won't need to drop time from January to make the team (though I certainly hope she does)...and excellent point halco, she won't have to swim another 'hard or 'important' race again until Thursday night, not tomorrow.

Dax isn't the only one in Austin that's swimming terrible. For all the 200 freestylers that have rolled through Austin in the last five years or so, they have all been terrible (Based on team affiliation on the results, Klueh and Berens are not training in Austin -- not that Berens has been great either).

Has anyone Eddie coaches looked good yet so far? Honest question.

I misread the schedule - mens 2 fly is Wednesday. But my admittedly amateur coaching position would be for her to skip the 400 free. I don't see how you can say she doesn't have to improve on her January time to make the team. She is seeded 0.13 ahead of Hersey and 0.17 ahead of Crippen. I worry more about Tosky than Breeden (etc.).

On Eddie's swimmers - Dax swam so badly he must be sick. I think Berens will probably go much faster tonight. Walters has been mediocre for a while. Can't forget Hansen's 100 breast last night - 59.71 - a very good semis time.

Oh - awesome time by Breeja. I think she needs 1:05 to make it. Two more races to go.

Cammile's 400 added almost 3 secs to her seed time. That looks like a tired swim. There are no NCAA points to be made, no bragging rights.

On yet another note, Katie Hoff had a terrible swim. She won't final.

Well she's got 48 hours to completely rest now. She'll be fine. Friday night is when she needs to be most ready, not Tuesday morning.

Can't wait to see Breeja and Hardy go at it tonight.

Spice - No doubt he's still very much "Eddie's swimmer" but some rumors have had him splitting his time between Austin and USC lately.
Not sure how much, or if it's just an inflated rumor (he might have just been visiting friends or something out there).

Just something interesting to put out there....

Also, at this point Hansen is an established superstar and has been for a decade. I'm just asking why all these stud recruits he gets Every. Single. Year. aren't performing at one of the 2-3 biggest meets of their life?
halco87
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Cammile's 500 free time at NCAA's this year: 4:44.67, 4 seconds slower than her seed time.

Cammile's 200 fly time at NCAA's this year: 1:52.40, 2 seconds faster than her seed time.

That was with prelims and finals of the 4IM sandwiched in between. Cammile will be fine come Thursday and Friday.

My theory: Dax Hill has been a very good swimmer. However, this meet was supposed to be his breakout meet to make London. If you remember, Phelps destroyed D. Hill on twitter a few weeks ago. Phelps was next to D. Hill today. I think Phelps got in to D. Hill's head and freaked D. Hill out. I don't know if Phelps said something, but D. Hill looked a little timid under the lights.

Also, Larson going H.A.M in prelims was great! Can we see a 1:05? Will she need a 1:05? Soni looks like a veteran. She will be the clear winner tomorrow. Will Hardy come through? Should be fun.*

* Yes, I'm not seeing Chandler sneaking in to 2nd anymore.

Chandler is completely out of the picture after what Breeja did to her. Too much to psychologically come back from. The question is whether Breeja can do it to the world record holder tonight. Can't wait!

I don't believe those rumors. I just don't see how alternating coaches is helpful at all. And for what it's worth, since my daughter dives at TXLA, I see Brendan regularly at Eddie's practices.

This is certainly plausible. But looking at the splits it just doesn't look like Dax at all. He takes out races very hard, sometimes too hard. I've watched him race since he was 14. If Phelps somehow freaked him out, I think Dax would have swum even faster on the first 50 than usual. Dax's tweet was stupid, but I think in his history he is a consistent racer.

That's why I think he was not physically 100%. If he was not 100% mentally, I think he would have made a tactical mistake. Not just swim slow. But I have no specific information and he may have just blown his OT swim.

I see the point. But last time around, Eddie got Walters, Berens, Peirsol, Shanteau, Crocker, etc. all ready to go. It could be that this class is just not the same quality.

We'll see how Feigen does on Thursday.

Breeja made semis with a swim that looked controlled. Hansen is back. Grevers looks like he could do some damage. A 14 year old swam in the W 400 FR. Great session.
