In the Phelps/Crocker case Crocker had a horrible leadoff swim in the 4x100 freestyle relay. He was a bit ill for that swim. He recovered, and Phelps gave up his spot because he knew Crocker was the WR holder and known to be a great relay swimmer. It worked.

There is a good chance Breeja swims the relay, at least in prelims. The medley relay prelims are August 3, while 100 breast finals are July 31. So the coaches will have all the facts they need to make the best choices.

Here is Cammile after prelims of the 200 fly this morning. I'm really proud of how our young ladies are representing us both in the pool and in front of the camera!

Good swim from Cammile tonight, no fuss, just getting it done. Very nice....

Schmitt pretty dominant as everyone expected. These mid & distance free events are probably the one place where the US is a little weak internationally right now. (On the individual events, not the relays!) Same with men's 400 and 1500...
Franklin is really showing up at these trials!!

That Men's 200 Fly just reminded me about how dominant Phelps is in that race. I get so caught up in the "what is he swimming" thing with him, sometimes forget to appreciate just how good he is in his pet event.

Hansen looking a lot better in the 200 than he did at the last trials... 2:10 for the field is a bit slower than I expected tonight though.

and WOW did Tarwater die on the last leg on that 2 Fly....

Cammile looked relaxed last night in her race. I'm looking for her to go much faster the 2nd half of the race. She split 1:01 in January in Austin when she swam a 2:06. She split 1:01.8 yesterday when she swam her 2:09. I think she is playing with the field right now and will not let Hersey beat her.

Cammile manhandled that 200 fly semi. I don't want to jinx her but I think she's at a completely other level than the rest of the field. If she can just be near the lead at the 100, I think she will dominate the second half the race and win more than comfortably. Based on what I've seen, Hersey and Vandenberg are the only two even remotely in her way of joining Breeja.

This has been one fun week.

Anyone else surprised to see Grevers scratch the 200 back after having the 3rd fastest prelim time? If this was explained on the NBC telecast, I missed it. Was it just to concentrate on the 100 free and back?

Also, in the Costas interview of Franklin, I was hoping she would throw us in the mix of schools she is considering. Maybe our strong trials showing will convince her and her parents to give us a shot. I think if she came on an SEC football weekend, we would move to the top. It might be tough to beat out Cal though.

15 minutes of fame, or 14:59.97 to be exact, just wasn't enough for Connor Jaeger, was it?

So selfish.

Hands down, well deserved. Couldn't go to a coach who is more dedicated to helping each and every one of his swimmers. He's a great role model with his low key mannerisms and true integrity. Congratulations to him and all of the team! We know how hard you all work. Good luck at the Olympics and savor this sweet moment!
