Missy wants to swim in college! I think we have as good a shot as anyone. Especially since Coach Bultman is one of her coaches at the Olympics, and 2 current Ags on the American team, plus 7 other swimmers in the Olympics!

I'm sure she been seeing a great display of the Aggie family there!

Thoughts?

I don't think so, we're not on her shortlist.

It is an uphill battle, but stranger things have happened.

I've heard she's committed to three trips -- USC, UGA and Cal. I'd love for us to at least get her down here for one of the other two.

Cal, to be coached by the olympic team coach.

I can always hope for the "stranger things." Like maybe even some "mini-lobbying" from the Aggies there!

it's unreal to think that she's not even in college yet and she's winning olympic medals.

Stanford and Texas were in her top 5

but she hasn't announced any official visit to those two as opposed to the other three

Stanford isn't going to happen, for a number of reasons.

No designs of visiting A&M either. USC is kind of a late-comer to the party.

However, never know. As was said, two Olympians goes a long way. Fairly conservative family, so maybe that plays in our favor.

Her personality would be a perfect fit here. She is as friendly and genuine as Breeja and Cammille. She is willing to go hot weather at Georgia - why not A&M?

I have a hard time thinking she would go to Texas with an unproven head coach.

Maybe Steve can shave 0.1 scholarship from a bunch of athletes to get her a full.

I'll be shocked if she doesn't end up at Cal..

1) Head Coach of USA swimming is also Cal's coach
2) Lots of Cal swimmers on team USA
3) About as close to home as she's gonna get
4) Winning tradition

Don't think she's said anything about A&M, has she?

I agree on the personality thing. She actually reminds me most of Julia and Cammile.

I know some of the teams she is looking at seem to be more individual based than ours. More cattiness, more me-me-me than team (some of which I've witnessed first-hand). She seems like a team-first type of person which would make her a fantastic fit here.

Again, it would really be nice if we could snag one of her two other trips.

She wants to be happy. That is why she has stayed in Colorado. She loves being on her high school team.

I think that if she made a visit she would love the team and Aggieland.

Also she is a huge Justin Beiber fan. Cammille needs to talk to her!

I don't think anyone stands a chance with Cal. We can hope though.

She may change her mind about collegiate swimming altogether when she gets offered multiple millions in sponsorships after the games. She's turned them down before but that was before she was an Olympic gold medalist. The money offers will grow expontentially now.

The payoff to her of staying in college could be bigger, if she continues to be fast. I know, I know, a big if, but the whole turning down the money, love of the sport thing is part of her air. Look at those who have skipped college....none of them have too many marketing deals, nor are they all that well-liked.

Her boyfriend will be a freshman at Texas next year, FWIW.

Phelps? Seems he set the standard for marketing deals. I understand its part of her schtick, but man the money offers will be awfully hard to turn down now. One shoulder injury could cost her millions. As her unpaid Coundelor I say take the money and run. Swim hard for four years and really make some bank leading up to Rio.

I gotta agree with Build It, the suit and supplement deals are where the money is. The general public just doesn't hear about them. A deal with speedo/TYR or Arena alone will give her more money than college costs (i.e: more than a 100% scholarship). If she can pick up a few generic deals (subway, kellogs, etc) as well, that'd just be money in the bank. Plus the national team stipend... Bare in mind that she can always go to college, but may not always be able to do what she's doing now....

Even more of a reason to go to A&M.

She can swim for a better program and be close to her boyfriend who will be only 2 hours away.

Samsil98 - your women's program is in a bit of a shambles. You fired your coach a few months ago. Several athletes have transferred, including one coming to A&M. Oh - and Kathleen Hersey, the Olympian, quit the women's team because she was the first to see how poor your coach was. Hersey chose to swim with Eddie Reese instead. How about Caroline McElhaney, who swam for texas for her freshman year, then transferred to A&M - and finalled in both 100 and 200 fly at the Olympic Trials?

Your men's program is a different story. But your women's program is a mess, starting over with a new coach, almost no recruits, and digging itself out of a hole.

Want more?

Texas made a good hire.

And it's worth noting that although our women's program didn't perform up to Texas' standards, we still had two Big 12 championships the last 4 years and finished second at the championships this year (slipped in the NCAA's though).

The recruiting was bad this last year, but I wouldn't go so far as to say we're in a shambles.

She wasn't the first. Trust me.

I will agree that they are not in shambles. They still have plenty of talent over there. The right coaching staff can get that thing turned around real quick. I'm glad we got those last two Big 12 titles and got out while the getting was good.

EDIT - While I'm obviously behind Cammile 100%, I am rooting hard for Hersey too. As many of us know, she has been through a lot the last four years both with the poor college choice/horrible coaching she had to endure as well as the loss of her mother. I'm genuinely happy for her that she has finally peaked at the right time.

The degree? No. The women's swim program while she was there? Not just yes, but hell yes.

I've always thought she was one of the most talented female swimmers in the NCAA while she was there and that we, as swim fans, were robbed of the opportunity to see what she was really capable of.

You suggested otherwise.

Anyway, it's interesting that a program like Texas, which is at its depths, managed to split the last 4 titles with a program at its peak.

That might say something about standards, etc.

I suggested nothing. You interpreted it that way.

You and I both know the only reason they won those titles is because of their lights-out recruiting. It sure as hell wasn't because of their coaching.

I think most folks are plenty happy with where the A&M program is and will stay that way as long as Bultman is around.

Sure you did.

You separated it out from the coaching. So now having been called on it, you're saying you didn't mean it that way.

Anyway, the point on standards remains perfectly valid. I see it time and again with folks here, most often with football. Wondering why Texas isn't more successful and quickly pouncing on anything as a sign of complete deterioration.

There's no doubt that as an overall AD we've slipped. And the football program isn't where it was.

But it's funny that it would be called a shambles when it is splitting titles with a program at the top.

No, I didn't. Her choice to attend Texas to swim collegiately was a poor one. Period.

I don't know much about this situation but Didn't Hersey quit the team to train with Reese?

Anyways Hersey has said she's a Horn for life. Let her make the decision whether it was good or bad

Hersey is a classy swimmer. Obviously smart and gutsy too. It isn't easy to quit a college team, stay in town, and train in the same pool.

Texas women's program overall, has declined from great heights beginning at the end of Sterkel's time while A&M has risen steadily from almost nothing to a national power. A&M still under-recruits slightly in my opinion. But it develops the hell out of its swimmers.

The new coach at Texas may be a good hire. We will see in two or three years. I think most thought Brackin was a good hire too.

Jacques - Texas has spent over $1 BILLION (I like to say it like Austin Powers) on athletics since the 2005 football national championship. Are you happy with the results? Only NCs since are in women's indoor track, men's swimming, and men's golf (this year).
Jacques

The only sport I really care about is football. The rest is icing.

And since that national title I have personally gotten to see some great football, notwithstanding the last two seasons.

If A&M has won a national title in football, played for another and won a bcs game in a 1 loss season would you be griping about the rest of your ad if it had done what Texas' had?
