I thought I'd start a thread about the 2013 Tournament. Not too worried about the women making it out of the first two rounds, so I'll probably have more to say about the men's second round match-up. But first, some info I put on twitter that I found astounding. We always hear about football & baseball SEC domination, but the same could be said about tennis.
12 of the 13 Men’s Teams (92%) were selected for the NCAA tounament. 8 of those 12 (67%) are hosting and seeded - UGA(3) Miss(6) Tenn(7) UK(8) MsSt(10) TAMU(12) UF(15) Vandy(16). That is a staggering representation.
9 of the 14 Women's Teams (64%) were selected for the NCAA tournament. 4 of those 9 (44%) are hosting and seeded - UF(1) TAMU (3) UGA (4) Bama (9). That's substantially more top heavy, but still awesome.
Overall, we should see some good SEC representation in the later rounds of the tourney on both sides. It will be interesting to see if such a brutal conference schedule really helps prep for the NCAA's.
The men's second round opponent is intriguing for many reasons... it's only been one year since the Aggies and Longhorns have faced off. The Aggies went 2-1 against the Longhorns last year, but hard to take anything from those results. The common opponents the Aggies and Longhorns faced this year are:
SMU: A&M W 7-0, UT W 5-2
UVA: A&M L 1-6, UT L 2-5
OU: A&M L 2-5, UT L 2-5, L 1-4
TCU: A&M W 6-1, UT W 4-3
Rice: A&M W 6-1, UT W 7-0
UK: A&M W 4-0, UT L 1-4
USouthernCal: A&M L 0-4, UT L 0-7
USouthCarolina: A&M W 4-1, UT W 4-1
Tulsa: A&M W 5-2, UT W 4-3
The two most odd losses on A&M record were on the road at LSU and Florida (3-4). Mixed with that have been some brilliant near misses against Tenn and Georgia. The Aggies should pick up the win at home, but I don't think it will be easy. If they play to their potential it could be an easy W, but I don't expect that.
The Longhorns will surely have tens of fans there... so I hope we can turn out in masse to support our tennis team next weekend.
