This is the last race for the ladies!

All A teams in this one! Stanford wins it, led by Manuel. The Aggies take a comfortable second.

The Aggie women look like sure top 5 contenders at NCAAs this year. Even though we beat Stanford at Art Adamson, Stanford will beat the Aggies at season end because everyone of their relays is a top 3 contender and they have more individuals likely to have A cuts. Gotta get to the meet to score points.

The Aggies are strongest in:

- distance free (500 and 1650) with Sarah Henry
- 400 IM (Henry, Galat, Bratton)
- 200 IM (bunches of Aggies)
- 200 back (Bratton, Brandt)
- 200 breast (Gelat, McGregor)

Our weakest event is probably 200 fly. I was impressed with McMahon's 1:57, which is 4 secs faster than last year. Maybe she can drop some more into the range of McElhany.

We are at least fast in everything else. I would not be surprised if Gastaldelo, Galat, and Bratton get meaningfully faster by SECs. Ibanez will be back but she probably has to taper for SECs to get her cuts.

Our relays are all strong. The 200 medley might be the weakest this year because we don't have a 50 fly/back swimmer like Paige Miller nor Breeja for breaststroke.

The men have a very long way to go. Our relays do not have a single B cut. I have a hard time seeing a single A cut for this team. Henschel is diving VERY well to hang with an Olympian like Ipsen.

First time posting on this board in a long time! LOL! I have kept up with Simone Manuel's progress since I met her & her Mom when she was around 10 years old. My daughter is the same age & used to practice with First Colony ST during the holidays when we would be in the area visiting relatives. Then we would run into them at TAGS (before Simone started swimming in national meets). I think with the Freshman Stanford has, they are a force to be reckoned with in the sprints & relays.

When they add world champion Ledecky next year, they'll likely be the favorite to win NCAA's. They have a silly amount of upper echelon talent on that team even now. Manuel is indeed incredible.

On "paper," Stanford could be a dynasty...like UCLA basketball was back in the day when the won several championships in a row. That's scary.

It is amazing what is on their roster now and what it will be like with Ledecky. She completely addresses Stanford's weakness now (distance freestyle). Manuel is an explosive sprinter - both flat start and relays. The US hasn't had a great female sprinter in a long time (no excuse for Torres being the best for so long). That Manuel is a Texan is even better (even if she swims for Stanford!).

I am damned optimistic though about the Aggie women. Losing Henry and Ibanez after this season will hurt, but three more years of Gastaldello, Galat, and Bratton is something to look forward to. Sycerika continues to develop and could be an NCAA finalist.

I think another problem for the Aggies is deciding which three individual events Gastaldello, Galat, Bratton, and Sycerika should swim at NCAA. They are so versatile and have decent times in most events they swim. Also Henry who also has a good time in 200 IM. Any ideas?

Henry is always a threat to win the 500 so no way she doesn't swim that in favor of the 200 IM. I think her slate of 500/400IM/1,650 is pretty much set. Can't say enough about how well she swam this weekend.

Really good question about the others.

Bratton may be the most clear cut with the backstrokes and the 400 IM.

Gastaldello looked most solid in the 50 free, 100 back and 100 fly.

McMahon looks like a lock in the 200 IM and 100 breast; may determine on how she's swimming in the spring whether she goes 200 breast or fly.

Galat should be in the 200 IM and breast. Coming into the season, I would've said her 100 breast would be her third event but her 400 IM this weekend was nice too. I would guess it will end up being the 100 breast because I think she will show more rapid improvement there but you just never know.

Right now I would say Bratton is much closer to scoring in the 200IM than the 100 back, so probably 2IM/4IM/2Back for her. plus that avoids 400IM/100Back double. I agree with the rest. This freshmen class has a lot of depth to it as well. Malone, Schuchhardt, Norman, and Moon all showed they are ready to contribute sooner rather than later.

As for Stanford, they don't just add Ledecky next year to their weak areas. They also add Ella Eastin (1:55/4:05 IMs, 1:55 back), Leah Stevens (4:43/16:07 free, 1:59/4:12 IMs) and Kim Williams (1:58/4:12 IMs). They flipped their weakness into a strength in 1 class, and basically they only lose Maddy Schaefer and Katie Olsen. Sick.
