What is the outlook for the NCAAs? I'm guessing several swimmers from teams won't be present in the pool, preparing for the Olympics. We were 4th in 2015 behind California, Georgia & Stanford. Any chance we win the whole thing?

Some perspective on 2017...

Seniors:
Oliver - 49
Brandt - 41
Konetzke - 21

Only two Jrs with points...
Bratton - so - 92
Gibson - jr -87
Galat - so - 87
Pickrem - fr - 85
Gastaldello - so - 80
Malone - so - 61
McMahon - jr - 49
Medina so - 37
Rasmus - fr - 34
Caneta - so 29
Kalonji - fr - 28
Norman - so - 26
Moon - so - 21
Lupton - fr - 19.5
Futscher - fr - 7

Huff - sr
Hudkins - jr - diving
Alaniz - so - diving
Mgebrishvi - fr - 39th 100 Fly, 33rd 200 Free, 40th 200 Fly
O'Neal - jr - No events
Sloan - so - No events
Buscher - fr - No events
Gregson - fr - No events
Jordana - fr - No events

Comming in:
Katie Portz - Ann Arbor (#31 on CollegeSwimming)
Karling Hemstreet (#51)
Sara Metzsch - Hillsboro, Or (#69)
Amy Miller - Baton Rouge (#183)

At least two of those coming in have a PB that would have added points at the SEC.

Our top 7 points swimmers in 2016 should all be back.

Dallas - no real outlook yet as the Pac12 still has to swim. And that means Cal and Stanford....

Outlooks in swimming are tough, never have a clear indication of where people are at in their rest.

Still, I think we all agree that since maybe 05-06? When the team started picking up steam and 'next level' recruits - Steve has a done a phenomenal job of keeping that pot boiling and guiding it forward just about perfectly.

True.

I believe there have been discussions on here in years past, about tapering and timing. The BXII & P12 still have their conference meets and the SEC chose to have it a little earlier.

And what is wrong with the men....Never thought I would see MIZZOU totally beat the pants off Aggies.....Near celllar dwellers of the Sec.....really? This is not right.

Kordell - I agree. This year was a tough pill to swallow on the men's side.

That being said, they also had to kick the best free sprinter off the team. How much of an impact that made is debatable I guess but still...

BUT, to try be more optimistic - they did have A-finalists in both Backstrokes and Breaststrokes. With scorers behind them as well.
Add in what looks to be a very good recruiting class and this may turn around quicker than expected.

I think from a longer viewpoint, the main thing we are *starting* to see more of on the men's side is local recruiting. Something a lot of us thought was missing for a long time.
Obviously the big question none of us know is: how much are those recruits costing scholarship-wise? Time will tell.

Some positive points to ponder for the Men. And yes, I know we still need more but there is light out there.

- They scored slightly more swimming points (433 to 424) this year despite having to kick their best sprinter off the team. In addition to A&B final points in the 50/100, that leg on relays probably meant moving up 2 spots in each medley and 1 or 2 spots in the 200/400 free relays.
- If it wasn't for a fluke injury to Henschel (67 points last year) they more than likely would have jumped S. Carolina for 7th.
- Seniors accounted for just 12 individual swimming points. 19 individual diving points, and just 4 of 20 relay legs.

If this incoming crew can make the immediate impact it appears they can make a move up the standings sooner rather than later. Time will tell.
