Man, I don't want to set unrealistic expectations for the future, but the idea of getting Quincy and Cooper in back-to-back recruiting classes in a couple years is so exciting... These days I feel like it's just a matter of how much the recruits value education, which I think both of those guys would!

This weekend is the Bluebonnet Relays, one of the biggest high school meets in Texas hosted right here at Texas A&M, and it's a LOADED MEET

My daughter will be there. She's a freshman and primarily a soccer player, but is has great natural speed and stamina and will be running the 4x200 today and the 800 and 4x400 tomorrow. She just joined the team last week and set the school 800 and 1600 record in her first meet last weekend. Can't wait to see how she does against some tough competition.

I feel sorry for the poor *******s that have to continually put on all these huge meets. Host SEC's one week then a massive HS meet the next? The week before NCAA's when you are a contending team? Oof.

And the officials might as well buy second houses in town since they are here so much.

It's great for the sport that we are able to do all this but Christ on a crutch that's an immense amount of work. There's no way they pay the people that do all this enough.

My daughter's High School coach pulled us out of this meet earlier in the week (worked out great, we went to a meet in Huffman and had fantastic wind for the discus, my daughter and two of our boys all PR'ed) because once she got the heat sheets, it looked like a logistical nightmare. As an example, 180 boys in 100M and in my daughter's main event, 105 girls in the discus. Almost every event is like this.

I'm a super young coach (in the throws even) and the more I coach the more I realize the size of the meet, especially early on isn't always the best thing!! I rather go to a meet where we'll get 6 throws and have some fun! And not wait 3/4 hours or even a day for the next throwing event lol. I've been to some meets where it's like 4 or 5 flights then finals and about more than 2 hours from the first throw to the last. Nowadays every meet has its results online anyways!

If the weather cooperates and everything runs smoothly. As we've already seen indoors this year, that is not always the case.

I don't think the terms "running smoothly" and "high school track meet" have ever gone together

Best of luck to y'all this weekend, and props to you for helping manage soccer/track.
I had no idea how much the seasons overlapped, till our son got moved to varsity his HS sophomore season...more than 1 track meet we had to hustle out after the 800 to drive across Htown to get to soccer

My parents said they think she is going Duke or some ACC school. She looked very strong at the finish of that 300

Pretty sure she is signed with Yale as a multi. She was or is still on the club team we just joined a few months ago

Yeah I've seen her long jump before! That along with her strength in the hurdles and 400 is impressive! Would have been nice to have her stay home! CSHS is a track school!

Thank you…club soccer + high school soccer + high school track is a lot. She did the 4x200 today and then came back and played in her varsity game tonight.

I wish I could get her into a club track team to really learn how to run / sprint. Club soccer keeps her / us plenty busy, but she also loves running and cross country. Without any formal training she won 6A regionals in cross country and could get close to a sub 5 mile and sub 2:10 800 this year with some real coaching and improved technique. This will be the first track meet that she will be up against really good runners, so it will be interesting to see how she does.

Can't wait to watch tomorrow!

Edit to add - I'm posting here because selfishly I'd love to see her run for the Aggies…we'll see what happens over the next few years.

That's very very impressive!! Best of luck to her tomorrow!!! The 800 and mile are very fun races! The more reps at the distance the better, they'll learn what their strengths and weaknesses are, but most importantly they'll learn how to race and how to race tactically!

With those times I'll be selfish and say I want her to race for the Aggies too

A little clarification. Running entries are limited to 90 athletes per event. 90 boys & 90 girls. That's 10 heats on a 9 lane track. As the races get longer, the fields grow and the heat count goes down. Relays have limited entries as well.

Horizontal's and throws are limited to 64 entries, 3 flights of 16. Pole Vault and High Jump are each run in 2 pits.

The fields are not so big they can't be managed with good scheduling. It's sad when teams pull out. They have effectively taken away the opportunities for others and there are far too many DNS's.

The group that really makes this meet work are A&M athletes that pitch in, filling in the gaps for the volunteer group of officials.

That was a long day but a very fun experience. My first time attending a meet like that, it was really cool to see such high level athletes perform in person. Records falling all over the place, it was great.

Very proud of my daughter in the 800. Terrible timing with that wind for her race but she won her heat and had the lead until the last group. She was 3 seconds off her PR from last week that would have had her in top 3, but excited to see what she does now that she's up against experienced runners. Crazy Bendet recovered from her fall to take 2nd.

She also did the 4x400…her school wasn't great but she anchored and went from 7th to 2nd with a 57 second leg. She killed it.
