Good news, we finally had someone drop time. After the women were 0 for 17 last week, the men were 1 for 5 today. Baylor Nelson swam 1:41.14 in 200 IM to drop 0.29 from seed time and made B finals. Actually swam a little faster than prelims last year when he made A final.

Connor Foote swam 18.91 in 50 free and made B final. Added 0.29, missed A final by 0.18.

So now we have added time in only 21 of 22 individual swims.

Evening session.

- Baylor Nelson finished 14th in 200 IM in 1:41.30 after being 11th in prelims.

- Connor Foote 18.78 to finish 2nd in B final 50 free (10th overall), moving up from 14th in prelims.

- 200 free relay broke the school record and finished 8th in 1:15.25, improving on season best by 0.61. Old school record was 1:15.79 from 2021 NCAAs which got 5th -- everything is faster and faster.

Hopefully that relay will give the team a little juice for tomorrow. Team is currently in 12th place with 39.5 points.

Baylor probably wishes he transferred.

TRENDING UP
TEXAS A&M

The Aggies are seeded for 62 points on the psych sheets, three quarters of them from the pair of Connor Foote and Baylor Nelson, so moving up in the relays is a clear path to success. They've managed that successfully in the two they've swum so far, picking up an extra 8 points in the 200 medley and 18 in the 200 free relay, although freshman Ben Sytsma had to be helped out of the pool after the latter with what appeared to be a shoulder injury after splitting 18.96. He probably wasn't going to be on the A&M 400 free relay, though, so that might have been the end of his meet anyway.

Nelson was a little off his PB in the 200 IM, and will need to rebound slightly to ensure he makes the 'A' final in the 400 tomorrow, but Foote is looking in good shape. Already 23.5 points up on their seed they're playing with house money right now.

Connor Foote, seeded 7th in 100 fly, adds 0.83 to seed time and finishes 23rd in prelims.

Did we forget to taper?

On Day 2 A&M was tied for second (+15) with Indiana in points above what the psych sheet projected. 23.5 points up on Day 1 and 2 (per my post supra).

For comparison the expected 2nd overall finisher Florida was down 69 points on the first two days. Even without the 100 Fly still up on the projections.

I'm past the brief high of the 200 free relay yesterday. Today was another bad day.

- After a lackluster 400 IM in prelims, Baylor Nelson posted an even worse 3:39.84 in the final to finish 7th in the 400 IM. Over 2 seconds worse than his performance in the same event last year.

- Projected A finalist Connor Foote finished 23rd in the 100 fly.

- 13th seed 400 MR finished 18th, 1 spot behind ARMY! No, not Navy, Army. That's just sad.

Still sitting in 13th place with 57.5 points with the help of the diving team.

Chances for swimming points tomorrow:
- 100 free Connor Foote seeded 9th.
- 200 breast Alex Sanchez seeded 16th
- 400 FR seeded 15th

This is about as good as we can probably expect with Bowman just down the road now.

I don't buy that. Their best swimmers are from all over the country, and world. It's not a regional recruiting battle dictating our outcomes. Our swimmers underperformed their ability in the men's and women's NCAAs.

Foote added 0.61 to his seed time to finish 25th in 41.99.

Sanchez added 1.09 to his seed time to finish 24th in 1:52.96.

Men finish 12th overall! Our best finish since 2021 when Shaine Casas scored nearly a third of the points! Hopefully we can get back into the top ten next year!

Aside from the diver I don't see any incoming help for next year at NCAAs. Going to take a lot of development. Looks like '26 recruiting is picking up a little vs '25.

I hope she proves us wrong, but damn. That hurts bad. She better hit the transfer portal hard for both sides or find some strong international talent. Feels like the rosters are very small compared to the rest of the country

Not surprising. He has potential and they've been elite and pushing out Olympians for nearly 5 decades now. Eddie Reese is the GOAT and Bowman(Phelps' coach) hasn't missed a beat in year 1.
