The biggest take away from this season so far for me is how much confidence Lu has gained in taking over that #1 spot. She is an absolute champion and a joy to watch compete. Anna has been solid in doubles and is reliable in singles. Lexington has moved from 6 to 3/4. Mia has been a work horse for us at every line she's played. Daria has made believers out of us all. Very proud of how she's turned things around and now almost a lock at 6. Ilinca has been a good fit and has won some important matches for us. Need her match tough for NCAAs. Doubles has gotten better.

We have 2 incredibly high powered international recruits coming in next year with 2 Americans that can compete as well.

We have the highest rated UTR player in America sitting on the bench with an injury. She may move on, and if she does, I'm so thankful she transferred from that other university and was the deciding point for our National Championship. Just a lot to be thankful for from these athletes and these coaches.

Now about an indoor facility…ugh, then there's that.

Lu has been unreal, I was happy with illinca but we will need her to be a much tougher player in the tournament to win. She does not seem to be a very match tough player like Mia for example. Illinca doesn't seem to really grind it out and make it tough once her opponents gets ahead

Agree on Lulu.

She has been the surprise of the entire NCAA.

I've always been a massive fan but never for a second thought she'd be undefeated through the entire regular season and clear cut #1 player in the country. Think of the great players who never did that - Mary, Dasha, Stearns, etc,

She is a big reason why we have a real shot to win another title. I don't think even Mark saw this coming. Hence Mia playing #1 when in hindsight the results aren't even comparable (and I think Mia is a fantastic player).

We have to wait a week to see if we get our biennial match against the hated Quinnipiac Bobcats or loathed A&M-Corpus Islanders.

A little bit of fun with Grok:

Based on current team results, which 4 teams would you expect to see in the final 4 of the women's division 1 tennis championships that will occur over the next 3-4 weeks?

The top 4 teams in the current ITA Division I Women's Team Rankings (as of April 14, 2026, the most recent available) are the clear favorites to reach the Final Four at the 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Team Championship.

These rankings are based on dual-match results, strength of schedule, and other factors from the regular season, making them the best objective measure of "current team results" right now (selections are announced April 27, with first/second rounds May 13, super-regionals shortly after, and the team finals May 1418 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, GA).

Here are the current top 4 (with records):
  • 1. Georgia (18-5) The clear #1 with the highest-ranking points; they've been dominant all season and will likely host deep into the tournament at their home site.
  • 2. Texas A&M (21-5) Extremely consistent and battle-tested in a loaded SEC; one of the strongest overall squads.
  • 3. Auburn (32-3) Outstanding win total and strong points total; they've played (and beaten) a ton of teams, showing depth and consistency.
  • 4. Oklahoma (23-5) Another SEC powerhouse right on their heels; excellent record and high-ranking points.
Why these four for the Final Four?
The NCAA format is a 64-team single-elimination tournament. It starts with 16 campus-site "pods" of 4 teams each (first and second rounds on-site), producing 16 advancers to super-regionals, then 8 teams to the championship site for quarterfinals semifinals (the "Final Four") final. High-ranked teams like these will almost certainly be top seeds, host early rounds, and face easier pathsplus they've shown the best results all year.

What's interesting this year is upsets are much more likely. Last year felt like A&M and Georgia and everyone else.

LSU had Auburn. Georgia has lost several.

We can beat anyone on the right day, but aren't as strong 2-5 as we were the last two years.

I laugh when I think about Carson, Nicole, Mia and Lulu as our 2-5.

That team would dominate this year.

Looks like we come in at #3 just before NCAAs. I can't imagine the seeding to be much different than below. Aggie please let me know if I'm wrong.

Congrats to the team and all those in the rankings. Lu stays at1 by almost 20 points. Wow.

Don't be surprised if we see this for seeding:

Georgia
Auburn
Ohio State
A&M

The committee uses a "jump" rule that puts heavy emphasis on H2H when ranked next to each other.

Auburn and Georgia are equally tough, IMO.

Georgia would probably prefer the 2. The #1 likely playing the winner of LSU and Texas in the quarters.

Incredible.

I wouldn't be surprised if that win streak is an SEC record - likely just not tracked.

ITA player of the year coming up next.

Individuals Champions will stay in the fall permanently. Still no word on officially naming the singles tournament the Stoiana Series.

Not trying to hate on Mary, but she didn't do all that well in the NCAA individual event over her career. I believe it was a first round loss, followed by a semifinal loss followed by a round of 16 loss.

Yes - great career, though. She did win the 2023 ITA All-American Championships, and ran through a pretty stacked field. She was usually just exhausted by the end of the team championships because we always made deep runs. She played singles and doubles and just ran out of steam (that's my personal opinion). On one hand, having the individual championships in the fall prevents this type of burn out/exhaustion. On the other hand, you won't find many of the top players in the championships in the fall. This is when they play professional tournaments, etc. My thoughts are you will see lines 3-6 in the individuals. We will see.

Aggie - what is your projection for the top 16 seeds? Wondering who would be our matchups projected matchups moving forward?

That's really bad news for the sport.

I think we'll start seeing more of that for the minor sports unless donors step up to the plate with direct financial support.

What will Arkansas do with their indoor tennis facility now? Maybe we can buy it and ship it here. Just kidding of course.

The financials in all of college sports really suck now.

looking at map, they're athletic venues are all over the place.

Also looks like their outdoor tennis wasn't very special.

wonder if they want that real estate for something else

The below numbers don't include investments in facilities or NIL either. It is just annual operating budget saved.

An enormous problem that tennis faces along with some other sports is they drive little to no revenue.

What caused us an increase of almost $6M? Didn't think our facility upgrade was that expensive. Ilinca? Kidding

They redid the locker rooms, courts were also resurfaced / repainted, and new fence enclosures. Not sure of that is $6MM

Ohio State lost to Michigan. I don't see them being seeded ahead of us now. Do you?
Anchorhold
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Because they did beat us at the ITA Indoors; I think the committee will jump ohio state ahead of us unless carolina is somehow in between. Whether we are seeded #3 or #4, the real winner of the seeding is whichever one of auburn / georgia isn't seeded to face us in the semifinals.

Based on the latest #, we are likely looking at:

1) Georgia
2) Auburn
3) Ohio State
4) A&M
5) UNC
6) OU
7) UVA
8) NC State
9) Texas (likely face Georgia in quarters)
10) LSU (likely face Auburn in quarters)
11) Pepperdine
12) Michigan
13) USC (our potential round of 16 matchup)
14) Vandy
15) Duke
16) Arizona State

Our path if seeds hold:

Round 1 -> Round 2 -> USC -> UNC -> Georgia -> Auburn

Chaos we want:

LSU to get hot and upset Auburn
Georgia to choke at home and lose to Texas

Auburn has a better draw than Georgia. I think we see them in the final after we upset Georgia.

College athletics would be crazy lucrative without Title IX. Football and Men's Basketball subsidizing all other sports is the issue.
