SwimSwam published their team previews - men are 12th and women aren't mentioned. Honestly, I was surprised at that ranking with Nelson, Wimberly, and Gulledge gone. Roster and schedule are not posted

Thanks for posting. I'm a little surprised with 12 also. Last year's performance did not inspire confidence. Recruiting picked up a little, but has a long way to go. Hopefully she went to Taper 101 Summer Camp.

With the amount of swimming talent that this state has produced just in the last 5-10 years, it's amazing this program can't be any better than it is. Why should A&M be behind programs like Auburn and Tennessee? I get they have more historical success, but they're in the same conference and they arguably have a less favorable recruiting back yard. Texas is understandable from the standpoint that they have unlimited funds and they have hired the biggest name coach in the business. Just feels like A&M underachieves in swimming.

That's not a preseason ranking article. It just previews the top 12 teams from last season.

I also had to go back and re-read the article because #12 would be outrageous.

They seem to be hitting the men's and women's 2027 classes pretty well, landing multiple top-100 recruits in each so far.

The answer might be found in the history of Dallas, 1) who ALWAYS provided public competitive swim water lanes at decent hours (no play toys/floaters in the way), 2) then SMU giving Coach Red Barr carte blanche & a building to become a natatorium 1946 = top 10 team in nation, winning 17 consecutive Southwest Conference titles (1953-1970).

BTW, SMU football was not able to help fund so much then as TAMU is today ..... and the SMU natatorium provided full circumference seating by comparison.

Our men are ranked 14th in the country and the women 20th

SEC wise we'd be ranked 5th in men's and 8th in women's according to the national rankings

which rankings are those? the most recent cscaa list is quite different.

i was more interested if someone more plugged in had some insight on what we could expect. the SEC meet is fun to follow, even more so if i know which teams we'll likely end up fighting for spots.

Keep expectations very low. She needs to recruit better.

I've kept up with the recruiting, there isn't a ton to be excited about. Year 2, I was hoping she would pull in some big names since that was what she was known for at UVA

Neither men's or women's team is ranked in preseason. Embarrassing.

Why can't we invest in swimming and diving?

Connor Foote, our best swimmer and scorer, is redshirting. Greatly hurts the men's team

Interesting, any insight as to why? Is he injured or just wanting an extra year? Maybe we get him better teammates in the portal this offseason

Apparently the article I found(which I can't find again for some reason) said he wanted to focus on school and US Open. Apparently he's an engineering major and working on a big internship

Here's one from yesterday on Swimswam.

https://swimswam.com/connor-foote-plans-to-return-to-texas-am-for-2026-2027-season-after-redshirt-year/
Quote:

Texas A&M sprinter Connor Foote plans to return to Texas A&M for the 2026-2027 season after redshirting this year, the program's head coach Blaire Anderson told SwimSwam this week while the team prepares for the SEC Championships.

Foote is the school record holder in the 50 free (18.67), 100 free (41.38), and 100 fly (44.34), setting all three standards most recently at the 2025 SEC Championship meet. Including a 4th place finish in the 100 fly and a 5th place finish in the 50 free, he was the team's #2 scorer at that meet as the Aggies finished 5th in Anderson's first season as head coach.
. . .
Foote finished 10th in the 50 free, 25th in the 100 free, and 23rd in the 100 fly at the NCAA Championships.

Foote is sitting out this season to focus on an internship related to his construction science major. He is working as a Project Engineering Intern with ACO Mechanical Limited, based near his home in San Antonio. Over the summer, he took on another internship as a Project Engineer Intern with Balfour Beatty in Dallas.

While he has only competed once since the 2025 NCAA Championships last March, Anderson says he has continued to train and is preparing for the 2026 long course season.

That one meet was the U.S. Open in December and showed the strength of his training, as he swam best times in the 50 free (22.27 in prelims), 100 free (50.23 in prelims), and 50 fly (23.48 in prelims) in long course. That 50 free drop in long course was his first best time in that event since August 2022 at Junior Nationals, where he swam 22.98.

He is now the 11th-ranked American in the 50 meter free this year.
