Women's NCAAs started today. Pretty sad state of affairs for the Ags. Don't know anything about divers, but looks like a decent chance we won't score any swimming points.

Only entry today was 200 Medley Relay where we finished 19th. Top 16 score.

Our other swimming entries in the meet and their seed.

Thursday
40 Whitaker, Ava - 100 fly
45 O'Leary, Hannah - 400 IM
48 McQuinn, Ella - 200 free
30 McQuinn, Ella - 100 breast
23 Texas A&M - 200 free relay

Friday
17 Owens, Kaitlyn - 100 back
29 O'Leary, Hannah - 200 breast
23 Texas A&M - 400 medley relay

Saturday
40 McQuinn, Ella - 100 free
21 Whitaker, Ava - 200 fly
24 Texas A&M - 400 free relay

Simple question, what entrance do you use to go watch swimming/diving competition? Is it the main entrance to the Rec center or another entrance. Never been, but want to go watch.

With the automatic qualifiers it's a little squirrelly how the preliminary events go, but
Quote:

. . .
Texas A&M had the biggest jump of the morning dropping .64 from their seed to move from 23rd to 5th this morning, meaning they can finish no worse than 13th in event. Swimming out of lane 1 in the 2nd heat, Senior Kaitlyn Owens opened in 22.18 before handing things over to Ella McQuinn (21.76), Eloise Williamson (21.96) and fellow senior Reagan Sherrard (21.92), with the quartet stopping the clock at 1:27.82.

Swimming points are now assured.

Just a clarification, McQuinn is a sophomore and both Williamson and Sherrard are freshmen. That is also the 3rd fastest relay in program history.

The meet is in Atlanta, Georgia.

We've got that going for us!

Also Joslyn Oakley finished 15th in the prelims for 1 meter diving so will dive in the consolation finals tonight.

edit: looks like no consolation final...she just finishes 15th. We are on the board with 2 points.

200 free relay ends up 12th overall. Ags finish the day in 24th place with 12 points....only 237 points out of 1st.

Friday morning Kaitlyn Owens tied 12th in prelims of 100 backstroke. So she earns 4.5 points.

It's a real shame they have done away with the consolation finals. Trying to make it "broadcast friendly" but only broadcasting behind the ESPN+ paywall makes no sense.

And the 400 Medley Relay finishes 9th in the morning session. With the 8 top seeded teams to swim tonight they probably need someone to DQ to get a point.

No points in the relay as expected. So after a 4.5 point day we are in 27th place with 16.5 points, 421 points out of 1st place. One day left.

The swimming portion of the meet is over for the Ags now. 1 platform diver to go.

Saturday morning: no points for individual swims. The 400 free relay finished 12th.

Of our 7 individual swims in the meet we only had 1 drop time. For the meet I looked at the 16 point scorers for all the individual swimming events and 35% dropped time in the prelims. This is the second year in a row where we didn't show up with our best at the national meet. Something is off with the taper plan.

The meet is mercifully over. With a 14th in platform diving by Gabrielle Filzen the Ags end up with 19.5 points and finish in 30th place, just 569.5 points out of 1st place. I'm sure we'll get 'em next year.

It's also sad because our diving program has been ELITE and we go rid of our diving coach. Almost an immediate drop off. This program is in just about as bad shape as women's basketball. This hire is a failure and looks to only get worse next year

I don't understand...just win. Texas approach to athletics is enviable.

Stanford edged out Texas for 2nd. Virginia is a monster in women's swimming and it doesn't look like they will be dethroned in the near future.

As far as the non-traditional sports A&M has won volleyball and women's tennis championships in the last couple of years (the programs' first ever in those sports). That's pretty good and enviable for most schools.

Swimming is looking to be in an unenviable position no doubt.

Men's NCAAs started today. We didn't have anybody in the 1650 or the two relays today.

Thursday:
Logan Brown is the 29th seed in the 100 breast and we are the 21st seed in the 200 free relay.

Friday:
Logan Brown is the 18th seed in the 200 breast and Emilio Trevino is in 3m diving.

Saturday:
Logan Brown is the 11th seed in the 200 IM and we are the 25th seed in the 400 free relay. We have 3 platform divers: Jaxon Bowshire, Emilio Trevino, and Matthew Aigner.

That's it. That's the whole meet.

Thursday results:

Logan Brown 30th place in 100 breast. Added time.

15th place 200 free relay -- and we are on the board! 4 big points. Only 211.5 points out of 1st. Two days to go.

Not even a top 40 program, meanwhile over at Texas...
Faustus
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The program is hobbled when Texas can just pluck the best swimmer on the team from A&M. I'm not sure if that's because of the desire to be under a specific coach or NIL, but Baylor Nelson alone might have landed A&M in the Top 15-20.

He was under the new regime for a year. My guess is he didn't want to leave but could see the way things were trending and wanted out.

Why you would dump the staff that got him (and several others that had the program trending up) is beyond me.

They should have just replaced the retiring Bultman and left the men alone.

Ags end Friday in 37th place with 8 points, 332.5 out of 1st. With a good day Saturday we still have a shot to pass several traditional swimming powers like Delaware and Army.

Saturday:

11 seed Logan Brown finishes 18th in the 200 IM after adding over a second to his seed time. That's the final individual swim.

So how many of our individual swims dropped time from their seed time at NCAAs the last two years:

2025 Women: 0/17
2026 Women: 1/7

2025 Men: 6/18
2026 Men: 0/3

We might want to look into that taper process.
