Was listening to DLLS recap the Myers trade and sort of preview what they think the Stars might do after, and they got stuck on talking about the Robertson situation towards the end. I didn't know this, but apparently there are some real questions about getting a deal done with him, and there is some level of gulf in contract talks.

I always thought that they were just pushing it down the road, and to some extent they might be, but I did not know there were real feelings of uncertainty. With that being said, he's not going anywhere this trade deadline. If Robertson were to be a UFA then the heat would get turned way up on this situation, but with being an RFA there's no reason to make a move now. That would be a summer move to make, especially considering the play or package coming back in return.

I was listening to a DLLS podcast last week where they indicated that Robertson might not consider himself locked in to Dallas as a long term home. They contrasted him with Duchene who immediately knew Dallas was the spot for him. Makes it sound like a hometown discount or even team friendly deal won't happen. This postseason is going to be so huge, for both him and the organization. If he disappears again then that's it, you gotta move on, imo.

Not only that, but you cannot afford to have a player of that caliber just walk out the door free.99. Nill wouldn't let that happen, but if he's legitimately on the fence about being here long-term unless he's getting $14M a year, then you have to flip him for significant assets.

Now, if it does come to that I have absolutely no idea what you do. Getting a deal done that big wouldn't be easy.

I love Robertson as a player but if money is the most important thing he cares about, get rid of him. It's just blows my mind how money means more than winning as a professional athlete.

Honestly doesn't bother me. It's their job & athletes' careers are short. Make what you can while you can. Sure the home discount or the desire to compete for a championship is great as a fan, but I don't blame anyone for maximizing earnings.

I'd venture to guess the Stars are done adding. The last month and a half I think we've seen a big jump from Bourque, Erne, Hryckowian, Duchene, Benn and Steel, as well as having Bichsel back. Which told Nill we don't need to do anything crazy. Just add a few vets and lets ride.
