I hope this doesn't give Robo any ideas. What are they doing?!??

So...maybe Anaheim will offer sheet Robo after (if) this goes through? Do the 4 firsts have to be their own, or could they turn around and ship those to Dallas?

Surely he would approve going there, right?

I would take 4 firsts for Robo, make some trades with his money and really go for it again next season with all our cap space.

I don't think anyone is going to offer sheet him. He's already made it public that he doesn't want to go certain places and wants to be in Dallas.

JFC, I don't enough about all this, but if we wanted to sign Robo long term, who could we trade or waive to create the cap space?

I am probably completely wrong, but it feels like Nilly has backed himself into a corner. Can we trade Oettinger? That was an absolutely terrible contract to give him. $66 Million guaranteed. WTF.

We can sign a guy like Andy Moog to give us better results. I love the Otter, but man does his contract sting us in the rumpus.

I dont either but if someone did, good riddance to a greedy player.

Wyatt is our most tradable asset given his contract and age. But if you trade him you'd have to get an Auston Matthews type of player in return. So really he's un-tradeable.

Harley is the most tradable asset that I think we'd be okay giving up for something else. He's still young with great upside on a number that in two years will be a bargain. And there's some belief around the league that he had a bad year but if you gave him his own team to run he could be a Norris caliber d-man offensively.

If you wanted to trade otter I'm sure you'd have plenty of teams out there, but what good does that do for us? Cool now you have Casey DeSmith starting every game. That doesn't help us either.

Only argument on Oetter would be that he's overpaid for the performance he has been providing.

Could trade him for a goaltender who makes $4 to $5 million and hope you get close to the same production. Then take the money saved to keep Mav or bring somebody else in.

Of course the Stars would not do this because they believe in Oetter and are committed to him.

However, it's past time for Oetter to be a difference maker. He should be in his prime now and has to be much better than last year.

I'm just trying to think outside the box. Bring in someone like a Stuart Skinner or Frederick Anderson that relieves the cap space and elevate some of the young bucks such as Jake Barczewski or Beni Halasz from the Steelheads to the Texas Stars to fight for a roster position in Dallas.

Pure and simple. It comes down to who wants it more.

All netminders need competition. If we stick with Otter, then he needs a Sea Lion trailing his ass at every turn. Just my two shillings...

No arguments here. The goalie situation is probably the fastest evolving position in all of the sport. How valuable are they these days? Are goalies going to be a year to year position more than they ever have been? What does the next good goal keeper get? All of this stuff is still yet to be decided.

I think we think of Otter right now a little like we did with Faksa before he got traded. He was getting paid 4.5 million then and we hated him. He came back and is not only getting 2 and we are fine with it. Shesterkin is the latest goalie to get paid and you'd have to say he is seriously overpaid after last year. But we'll see what happens moving forward. I think you'd ride out this year with Otter and see what happens.

Oetter has a no movement clause for the next five years so no sense in thinking about that

So we have a GM that backed the franchise into a corner....great.

Yeah, the Stars are locked in on all these contracts. The whole league was handing out no move clauses over the last 5 years.

The CAP was kept level and teams didn't have the money available to offer to the players. So, they gave them other incentives like no move clauses.

Not sure the Stars should have offered that even if they could. Good for Mav, though.

That's a lot of money for a guy coming off one solid year.

Still a little more than 3 hours away from the filing deadline…could this really be heading to arbitration?

At least this takes the offer sheet off the table. Hearings aren't pleasant, but the glass-half-full view is that you likely get him back for less than what you would have paid in year 1 of an extension and then just hope you can sign him to a long-term deal after that when you have more cap space. Maybe it enables you to go get a little more help this year with the money you saved.

Of course, nothing that's happened so far suggests he'll do the Stars any favors here or give us any type of discount, so we're probably gonna have to take our chances with him as an UFA next summer.

I'd trade his ass at the deadline if there's any decent package we could get back in return
Enrico Pallazzo

I am good with this approach. Buys time. Still a tradeable asset. Get to see what juice your roster has after a longer offseason to recharge its batteries. And the cap flexibility opening next offseason allows a very holistic review and change in strategy that you can do in one swoop vs doing it in pieces
