great match. caught a shirt from Dakki after his victory, but it's way too small!!

Hard fought match. Home crowd big help for the Aggies. Might have been interesting if Texas had converted match point at 5 singles. For the most part well played. Four three set battles. On the odd court side all there match for the Longhorns were played by freshman. It will also be fun to watch as the rivalry between Makowski and Helgeson developes. Now for the tournament.

Cessna said that tu's coach wanted the umpire to controll the crowd better. LOL I guess the little bit of banging before he served was out of control.

Good solid win for the Aggies. It is nice to see the doubles team beginning to hit on all cylinders. Number three doubles with Jerry and Mat are very impressive. Mat has given the team a much needed lift and his energy is contagious. He was very steady yesterday and got us off to a good start in singles. Simo battled all day and if he can finally stay healthy he could be a big factor down the stretch. Jerry was rock solid and it was nice to see Ante win in three sets. Brett and Bryan were both in a position to win, but came up short. I think it was more to do with the Texas kids (especially Roger Gubser) playing well down the stretch than major failings by our players. In any event, a great win for the Aggies, locks up the number two seed in the Big XII tournament, and keeps the train on the track to host the first round of the NCAA's. Stay tuned.

Gotta love Dakki's sprint from court 5 to court 1.

Also, not sure what the t.u. coach was complaining about. I was only watching court 5 for the last couple games (had been on the even court side before that) but I didn't hear anything I didn't hear from the t.u. players while standing behind them watching doubles. I know that tennis is different as far as crowd control goes, but where exactly is the line drawn for what you can and can't yell in between points?

I thought the crowd was fine. I thought that some of the t.u. players were being babies, especially Roger. I wish he lost, but I'll take a team win.

I know on Court 5 there was some bad blood between the t.u. player and some of our players that were finished already. He would continue to look up at them before he served and smiled. Also taunted the crowd after he scored a point. I don't know what the deal was though.

actually, this was probably the tamest A&M/t.u. match in the last 4 years. sweeping the dubs and getting up 3-0 pretty much took all of the fight out of the sip fans. they sabotaged barriga by trying to start **** with dakki. the guy with the goatee (i think he is the dude who used to have those nasty dreadlocks...glad he finally cut them off) basically killed all of barriga's momentum by getting owned by the chair, and getting simo all fired up. i almost felt sorry for barriga because we were all up in his head, until he told us we "****ing sucked" and started doing that crap where he would put his ear up to the crowd when he won a point. come on buddy, you're down match point...you just look like an idiot talking **** when you're about to make your team go down 4-0.

aside from that, the match was pretty much like any other. jerry and bain absolutely dominated, and those matches were short and sweet. ante should have put it away in 2 sets, but i think it was almost better for him to win it in 3, given how many tough matches have slipped away this year. it looks like he should be in top form going in to next weekend.

the 2 matches we lost were the only ones i was worried about going in to singles. the guy brett played was overmatched when it came down to serves and strokes...he was just so damn patient. he would just play and play and play until he got a forehand he could step in to and then just put everything he had in to that shot. wooten fought really hard in what was easily the best match of the day. gubser was good for a few hooks at crucial times, as always, but nothing that really changed the outcome of the match. i look forward to seeing the rematch next year.

as i said, it was probably the least dramatic t.u. match in the last 4 years, but stil sweet none the less. t.u. 2-5 in conference after bringing in the number 1 recruiting class in the country...who woulda thought?

Watched a similar match to this one when Madden's class was a frosh group. It was 99 and Texas won that day 5-2. Freshmen are hard to count on. However, I also noticed that the match was little from the start. Four matches that went three sets were the difference. Ags split them, Texas needed all of them....Now the real fun begins at the tournament...

First round of the BIG XII? YES, were finally clicking on all cylinders in doubles, and jerry has great momentum, as well as Bain.

I think we'll play Baylor in the finals and lose 2-5.

I think Texas has a good young team. They have some upperclass leadership, but they have had to rely on young guys this year. I am not really too sure what is going on with their program, but Coach Center is a good coach, and if they will stay with him, they will be back in the not too distant future. The program is too storied and proud to stay in the 20-35 range for very long. I do not know whether Coach Center is under any pressure regarding his job, but the rise of Baylor and to a lesser extent A&M, have made his job more difficult than it might otherwise be. Now we also have Tech making waves at the conference and national level. I, for one, hope that the folks in Austin will give him some additional time to try to turn their ship around. I would note, however, that he looked much more strained and anguished during the match than I have seen him in the past. Maybe playing all those young guys will do it to a coach.
