The Bears will be going for there 3rd national title in a span of one year tommorow night.

UCLA is very good, but as I have said all year Baylor is the tennis version of the 1996 Chicago Bulls. No team in the country can match their depth. When your #2 player is the defending NCAA champion and their 5 and 6 would be top 2 at most other schools its hard to win 4 matches against them.

Baylor takes the doubles point, but UCLA roars back with a quick singles win at #2 over Becker(note, Kellso). All courts look competitive. I believ the key match is at #3. The team that wins there will win.

Baylor up 3-1, but all 3 remaining courts inot 3rd set. It will not be easy for the eurobears.

3-2, UCLA winning the 1st 3 setter. Court 6 at 6-6. If UCLA can win on #6, watch out.

UCLA could be close to taking this match...they just went up a break on court 3.

It all comes down to court 3...UCLA just took the #6 match to even it at 3-3.

3-3, down to Court #3, with UCLA up early.

Should also be noted that UCLA's guy is a senior, while Baylor's guy is a fish. Could factor into the outcome.

Yea, a 21 yr old freshman. Prob same age as UCLA's senior. Becker and Dorsch are like 25. UCLA Still up a break at 4-2.

UCLA one game away from a national championship and ending baylor's streak.

Not that it matters, but the UCLA guy is 25 years old...so they're not the same age.

I normally would pull for the Big 12 team, but I have watched this Baylor team play 3 or 4 times, and have felt they were arrogant and dismissive to their opponents. That is why I wished I could have been there when Jerry took down Dorsch, and when UCLA ended their streak. We won't have to see Dorsch and Becker on Big 12 courts anymore.

i was there for both of them.

everyone there tonite that wasn't from baylor wanted ucla to win. players and coaches from other teams, their fans, everyone. not sure why shearer wasn't playing 6, but i'm not sure he would have won anyway...not enough power to out-hit ucla's #6. portnov was tough, but just didn't have the power or consistency.

i predicted that baylor would win 4-1 or 4-2...and i've never been so happy to be wrong in my life.

UCLA was on a mission!

The #7 seed taking out the #1 and undefeated BU squad is a good story. BU didn't seem to play with the same drive I saw earlier in the tourney.

What happened to Becker?

dorsch played balls to the wall, as usual. he was in it from start to finish. lars, though 21, is still just a college tennis freshman, and lacks the experience that kwinta has.

becker is wearing down IMO. he didn't play great in dubs either. maybe he was trying to save a little gas for the singles tournament... or maybe it was just because the guy he played is 11 in the country (becker is 18), had a ridiculous left handed slice and kick serve, and had a huge whip of a forehand.

also, baylor had portnov playing at 6 instead of shearer. not sure why, and not sure it would have made a difference, because gruendler is still 85 in the nation, and he fought the entire match.

just got back. watched jerry beat a guy from ohio state...straight sets, and he looks ready for a run deep in the tourney. he gets lars, the #3 from baylor, in the next round.

ante ended up getting in as the third alternate at the last second. ucla's #1 pulled out, and ante got moved in to the draw as one of the higher seeds. he drew helgeson from tu, and helgeson won in straights. ante had a break up in the first, but lost it right back and dropped the first in a breaker. couldn't get anything started after that.

best match of the day was jeff kader (zack's old teammate from william and mary) against becker from baylor. jeff got the break to go up 4-3 in the first, and took the set 6-4. he got broken twice early in the second and lost that one 1-6. the third was tight all the way thru, and the guys traded breaks at 2-3 and 3-3 (if i remembed correctly). becker tree'd a backhand pass to save a break point kader had to go up 4-3. after fighting off a few more deuces, kader ended up losing the game and going down 4-3 himself. after two more holds, becker got a break and took the third 6-4.

the #1 from stanford, sam warburg, got walked in the 3rd by a guy from old dominion, and was the first big upset victim of the tournament.

dorsch won easily, of course.

it was ridiculously hot again today, but at least there was a little breeze at times. hopefully it cools off some for doubles tomorrow.

Jerry v. Lars from baylor. Jerry takes 1st set, and up 2-0 in 2nd. Impressive performances and upsets by Luke Shields from Boise St. (freshman I think) and Travis Helgerson from tu. Will add to Jerry's resume to beat the guy he had to share the Freshman of the year with.

Jerry looked good. Very classy guy. Told him nice match and he talked to me for a minute. I bet some people would just say thanks and then walk away.

Sad that our doubles lost. I'm gonna miss seeing Ante play.

Jerry's run ends with a loss vs. the #3 ranked player in the country. A good run, he'll be ready for a serious run next year.
