I understand that they have created a unique atmosphere to the other sports at A&M. What I fear is that they have made the atmosphere too similar to sporting events at other schools. Obviously our atmosphere is still different and will hopefully always be different. But it seems like we keep making changes that reflect the trends of others schools across the nation. I just love the idea that aggieland is unique, and I don't approve of anything that affects that.

eh, he'll calm down soon enough. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. With Haun 06, we know where he (or she) stands. He doesn't like Hullabaloo, fine. He's not happy with change, that's okay, too. I say, when he goes to the volleyball games and basketball games, he should just bring an ipod with him with his marching music and just turn it on and listen to it when Hullabaloo starts playing. It will keep him happy and the rest of us, too.

Let's go easy on him, he's new to Texags. My final statement on it will be that change for the sake of change is not a good thing, but staying the same for the sake of staying the same is just as bad. Sure we may do things similar to other schools, but maybe our way isn't always the best. It is possible that other people may have better ideas, and it's not a bad thing to emulate that.

Similarly, being unique for the sake of being unique is bad.

The FTAB seemed to work just fine back in the 70s at G. Rollie. Perhaps the extra PITA of going to Reed, adding Lady Aggie games, adding volleyball....it got to be too much. (I'm guessing they were at those other events.)

I can't say I'm thrilled about "Hullabaloo", but I'm giving it a chance.

I always liked "12th Man". I agree that it has been associated with losing football games for a long while. But I have no problem with it being taken and used in a different context (new tradition?) at other sports.

Perhaps things were different in the 70's but the last time I saw the FTAB at a game, it was a less than stellar show of support. They just kinda went thru the motions, played their songs, and got the hell outta dodge as quickly as possible. There is a reason everyone wanted to hire the Prarie View band for basketball before Hullabaloo was started up. Not to mention basketball and volleyball are more fast paced then football. Football is a grind, march your way down the field, that is why the FTAB is perfect for football. basketball and volleyball need an upbeat band, just to keep the energy of the crowd up.

For the Hullabaloo members on this post ---

Hey, I agree on the 12th Man! I love the song, and it was too bad that we had relegated it to times that we got outscored. I hope to soon hear the new band this year. I got to a couple of basketball games last year, but with my new fish '09 down in Aggieland, I'll be sneaking out of Denton County a little more now.

A few years ago during the file-sharing-song-downloads craze, I found an old FTAB version of a song called "Gig 'Em Aggies". Of course it was a march, but I loved it. It was both 'ol army and collegiate sounding at the same time. I always thought if it was played much more up-tempo, it could be a great and quick song, a song that could be ripped out during a basketball timeout.

If you can find it, please give it a listen and a little consideration!

Thanks for the props and the suggestion! I'll see if we can find it and pull it out. We have no qualms playing stuff like that and we do need a few more Aggie oriented pieces.

The band has improved tremendously this year. Our old members have now been playing for a year after a couple of years hiatus from playing and the fish we have in the band this year are just plain awesome! I have high hopes for Hullabaloo this year. People are gonna be majorly surprised when they hear us. I can't wait for basketball to start up. We have a few great songs sitting in reserve just waiting for basketball season. But till then, we'll keep playing and rooting on our FTA Volleyball team. Whoop!

c-ya, if you still have a copy of the song, could you e-mail it to me at ShellieBean06@gmail.com? We might be able to do our own arrangement of it...just in case we can't find it anywhere. Thanks!

I understand what you are saying. I really do. And, to some extent, I wholeheartedly agree with you. Aggieland is a unique place and should stay that way.

However, in some of our sports (and I am thinking about basketball in particular) we really need to try and emulate what other, more successful basketball programs are doing. We need to do this because our program was in the cellar. No one that was any good wanted to play here because we did not have the kind of basketball atmosphere the other programs had.

The players and coaches want to have the spirit or pep band playing the upbeat songs common to other programs. They want the dance team on the sidelines. They want that kind of atmosphere. We try to keep some of our uniqueness by having the yell leaders there leading the crowd in yells.

This may be something some Ags may not want to hear, but sometimes we need to look like other programs just so that we can compete for these recruits.
