Berhalter at the fault of the last two.

The Germans are going to pleased by this score but they looked vulnerable for the first 70, something the US 1st team might have taken advantage of.

CRAP! Germany just scored again at 72nd minute.

Conrad really screwed up. Germany just played a nothing ball forward. Conrad quit on it. I can't emphasize this enough it was horrendous. Dude flicked it to teammate. Duvall scored a brilliant goal. He was 30 yards out. Shot was laser beam in upper corner. Keller had no chance.

CRAP! Germany just scored again while I was typing. Berhalter brain farted and gave them a free run.

Three good finishes by Germany all set up by really bad plays by USA. Wheels are off of the wagon. Game is over with 20 minutes to go. Those of you who watched USMNT in the 1980s should be familiar with the feeling.

4-0 Pablo should have never been subbed out.

Yet another game proves my hatred of berhalter. The guy is a scrub, who for some reason, gets playing time. Pretty obvious we are missing a lot of important players, and they are not.

Keller is being treated like a pinata. There are Germans running free with the ball down the wing. There are open Germans at near post and far post. It's ridiculous. It reminds me of Aggie secondary last year.

Moral victory. We just scored. 4-1 now.

Keller quick throw, one touch to midfielder, longball to EJ. EJ and Kahn collided, both hurt. Not seriously I think. Don't know if EJ actually touched it.

One thing we are learning from this game. We have some not read for primetime players on the field. And Convey definitely isn't one of them. He is playing out of his mind.

I also think it was pretty obvious what the difference is at right mid between dempsey and klein. If we can find some way to have him, donovan, beasley, and convey on the field at once. it would make us very dangerous and creative on offense.

Final 4-1. Our B-team played pretty well versus Germany's A-team. Game was evenly matched throughout....Except for a ridiculous 10 minute period. USA was running a Chinese fire drill. Blame crappy players or unfamiliarity because of subs but it was unbelievable. It appeared that we were played with just nine guys.

Convey played one of best games I've seen this year by US player. Just stellar.

I missed most of the 1st half but caught the second half....my conclusions:

Berhalter and Conrad may have played themselves out of a WC spot with that 2nd half performance if they were on the bubble earlier. I don't think there was a defender within 15 yards of Ballack when he headed home the 4th.

Convey played very well and is a completely different player. The confidence he has gained at Reading shows.

I expected to lose but I didn't quite expect that kind of collapse. Germany will think all is well now but seriously, I wouldn't even call that a B team to be honest. Besides Cherundolo, Keller, and Mastroeni, none of those players will be 1st choice and some won't even be second choice options at their respective positions (Klein, Olsen, Ching come to mind). But I'll watch FSC tonight and stroll around the internet and I'll see assbags that will probably sneer and guffaw at the scoreline when any knowledgeable fan will know that in the grand scheme of things, it means nothing...except for Berhalter and Conrad as it means they won't be coming back to Germany in June.

I watched the whole first half, and for us to escape tied 0-0 was a gift. Defense was absolutely atrocious. Keller was getting pelted. Germany had more shots on goal in the first 10 minutes than the US did the whole half. Yuck...

Pardon, my ignorance but I haven't been able to keep up with US soccer as much as I'd like. Dre was saying that Keller's not good enough to be first string? Who's are number one guy? Howard? Have I really been out of it that long?
Pahdz

no, he's saying that Keller is one of the few that played today who WOULD be considered first choice.

I wouldn't have expected either Berhalter or Conrad to see the field at the WC anyway, even before today. Make the squad, maybe, but I wouldn't have expected either of them to play. I guess it's good that our third-stringers were making a lot of the mistakes at the back.

I really hope Berhalter isn't the next Agoos. Arena seems to like topick a favorite that isn't very good and try and bring him along for the challenge.

All I can say is that this is a very GOOD omen for the US team...remember that Germany killed us in a friendly just before the 2002 WC and we did not fare so poorly in that one, eh!?

Sorry.."trying to look on the briiiight side of life"!

I just watched the game through the magic of tivo....I have to disagree with alot of yall I thought we were terrible the entire game. It could easily have been 7-0 or something similar. Thank god the germans couldnt finish in the first half. On a different note I knew we had a B team and expected this type of result and im still kind of pissed I wonder how some of you predicting a win are feeling...

.............USA just lost 4-1 to what has to be the worse team in the history of German soccer. If they (Germany) play like that in the World Cup they won't be making it out of the first round, that was some ugly futbol.

Yea, and if we had our "a" team on the pitch yesterday, the result would have been the same, but with the positions reversed.

Patag,

Can I have whatever you are smoking?? Yes the USA was not a complete team, however it was not the "B" BS everybody is calling it.
For that matter, the Germans where not complete either (not as bad as the americans) but they too were trying out lineups and missing some key players.
You had some of your top 22 USA players on the field yesterday, which means that the top 11 are good, but after that it is a pretty bad team.

I will say that this game proved NOTHING for either team. When the World Cups starts, both team will play very very differently. USA will do much much better then yesterday.

I know I am giving you guys crap and not giving the Americans enough credit. Truth be told, I was more impressed with the USA then I was with the Germans.

Andy, the US team was missing its top striker, five of its top six midfielders, and its top two defenders. Seems like the very definition of B-team to me. No excuse for getting blown out, but when you look at the whole of the circumstances the result does not trouble me much.

Getting key players back from injury and game fit before June is the greatest challenge the team faces this spring.

To be honest, I would call that more of a B-/C+ team.

Even taking out the Euro players, some of our mainstay MLS guys weren't there. If you consider most of our Euro player the frontline, then MLS guys usually second, then these guys were 3rd line.

Regular MLS guys not there yesterday:
Donovan
Dempsey
Wolf (Played what? 15 minutes before being subbed for)
Ralston
Hejduk
Pope
Dunivant(who looked really good before injury)
Noonan

That was a team with 8 MLS regulars missing not to mention the Euro players.

Heck, if we would have scored on that EJ header, then the score would have been 4-2 which is what I think our A team got beat with 4 years ago.

I'm not trying to pump sunshine, because some of the guys out there were really exposed, and we should just hope the bright side is that they won't make the WC roster. Guys like Klein, Ching, Berhalter, Conrad, Zavagnin didn't impress at all. ON the other hand, Maestroeni, Gibbs , Convey looked really good.

The thing to remember is that our "B squad" isnt the same as european/south american B squads....we dont have any depth...when you think about it there is a huge drop off in talent when you go from guys like reyna and bocanegra to guys like klein and berhalter...

One thing that worries me is this is another game where eddie johnson did not look good...he had one good header but other than that it wasnt the eddie that we saw during qualifying...right now i think twellman has the starting nod over him

What exactly is BS about it? Are you saying it was closer to our A team or that it's a poor excuse for the loss? If you are saying the latter, I agree. If you are saying the former, you're dead wrong.

Some...not all...not even close to all. In fact of the 15 players that played yesterday, I can name 7 that will almost assuredly not make the World Cup roster, or if they do, won't get any playing time unless a flood of injuries occur.

*Berhalter
*Conrad
*Zavagnin
*Ching
Klein
Olsen
Pearce

* means they started the game.

In addition, I'd say only 3 of the players (Keller, Mastroeni, and Cherundolo) are certain first choice selections.

It would be like putting Paul Robinson, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole with a bunch of Zat Knights and expecting them to win against a motivated German team. They wouldn't have (although it would have been MUCH closer).

In other words, that roster and that game didn't prove that our first 11 are good or that our second 11 are bad. It proved that our second 15 (for the most part) can't compete against a nearly full strength Germany squad that had to have a result...and not just a result but a resounding result. That's all it proved and to be fair, I didn't need a friendly to prove that to me...I already knew that.

I still wouldn't make too much of this loss anyways. Germany was under a huge amount of pressure from the country's media and fans. Klinsmann in my opinion had a large amount of job security on the line for the game while the US' primary objective was to let some of the kids play and see where the would be when the games really matter. This game was a much, much bigger deal for the Germans than it was for us. Never mind the fact that we actually played in Germany.

After watching the game, I don“t think either of the teams that were on the field would have qualified for the world cup.
