A&M track champion Jenkins suspended

Hurdler Cordera Jenkins, a Texas A&M signee and the national junior outdoor champion, has tested positive for metabolites of cannabis and has accepted a three-month suspension, according to the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

Jenkins, the 2005 Class 4A state champion from Dickinson High School in the 110-meter hurdles, tested positive at the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships on June 22. There, he won the 110-meter hurdles.

He has been stripped of that title, but because he has completed an educational anti-doping program, he will be allowed to return immediately to competition.

Weed? Weed isn't performance enhancing. If anything it should make one slower. Recreational drugs shouldn't be tested for.

If they're illegal, they should.

He shouldn't be smoking, college student or not, but especially as an athlete.

There is nothing illegal about being positive on a drug test. What if he smoked where it was legal? Canada? Europe? I'm sure that isn't the case this time, but you can't rule something like that out all of the time. What I'm saying is, you have no idea if he broke the law or not.

aggiebird02 - Athletes are held to higher standards than just what is legal. Obviously he broke the rules of the governing body, otherwise he could not have been punished.

As for it being possibly legal, try applying for a job and failing a drug test... I highly doubt they'll accept that you smoked out legally and still give you the job. This is a similar situation. He's already hurt his credibility with the coaching staff and university.
