Frats are wrong

Why?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Because they are elitist conformist drinking clubs full of spoiled brats with no real friends so they rent them instead, and then because they have zero game or personality, they roofie girls at tailgates and mixers so they can have a "date"?

Amazing to me how strong opinions can be over something that doesnt affect you one bit. Why not just let others do what they want?

This. Not enough stars.

We sold these in Hart when I was a Frick.

I think my old one is in the attic somewhere.

I was never in a frat, but everything you just said couldn't be more wrong. I have a lot of friends that were in frats and met the people in their frats, and your description isn't accurate at all.

My Frick year (back when I was an engineering major, lol), one of my class mates was pledging and told me that being in a fraternity "was a warm and rewarding experience." That was 1990.

I got my first Letterhead that night. I think I was an "E."

At the very least it changes the image of the university. You can't make fun of the SMU snobs or UT fruitcakes if you have them yourself.

Reality is that a lot of kids would struggle at some schools without Greek Life. I have visited quite a few schools for road games and I can see where it would be hard to attend Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama, UGA Tennessee, and Clemson without being in the Greek System. It is big at LSU also, but not as strong, it seems. We are really the strange duck.

I enjoyed dorm life, Bonfire and RHA when I was at A&M. But that was 30+ years ago. A lot has changed.

While I made fun of frats when I was at A&M, no doubt I'd have pledged (or tried to) had I been at a different school.

I was never in a fraternity (or the corps), but to an outsider looking in, a fraternity does not seem much different from playing dress up as fake military in the corps. I get that a small minority of corps students actually join the military, but unless it actually becomes a ROTC program with mandatory military service, the corps doesn't seem all that different to me. Nerdier, sure, but both just social organizations.

Yeah. Frats are much better now than they ever were.

this is a T sip talking point, "fake military". When did the corps ever claim to be a real military.

Fraternities have been around A&M for over 50 years (since before many of these complainers were even born).

That's my point though. The corps doesn't claim to be real military, so it is just a social organization. Like a fraternity.

It is an ROTC program for the first 2 years, and right now almost half the cadets are going into the military, not exactly a "small minority"

A key difference is the Aggie Corps doesn't allow its members to choose who's allowed to join. As long as you're able to comply with the organization's standards, you can join and stay.
Also, ROTC remains a significant part of the program. It's foolish to try minimizing this fact.
