Keep it to hand down to family members. Or have it melted and make some other jewelry for them to wear. Or if nobody wants any of that, have it melted and sold and donate the money to a charity you support.
Definitely. The Association pays half the burial costs.
I have my Dad's Aggie ring and get to see it every day. May save it for one of my grandchildren.

Speaking as someone who both has an Aggie Ring and will die someday, my answer is no ring. In fact, no anything. Why waste a good shirt and pair of pants. I want to go back to dust in the buff.
My father had two rings, his original and a replacement that he got when his other one was very worn down.
He left the replacement to me and requested that we bury him with his original, which we did.
For those who think it's dumb, it was his request, which we honored, and we did it out of respect for him.

I will probably give it to my kids or grandkids so that the guy who my wife marries after I am dead doesn't pawn it for boner pills.

To those who support burying with jewelry, would they feel the same if the person who passed had opted for cremation?
Also, burying someone with "things" is not an effective way to help remember him/her.

We're all 2 generations from being completely forgotten. But an Aggie ring is an heirloom that helps pass along your history and accomplishment at least in some small way… if you don't bury it with an empty, rotting husk

Not sure, but I think cremation is no clothes, no jewelry in any case. We haven't met with our funeral guy yet so I'm not exactly sure.Quote:

Correct. You don't get cremated with stuff, and there are some implants that they may even remove first (like pacemakers or anything else with a battery/electronics)

Yes. They leave metal like artificial joints in and gather them after. Then they grind the bones which are the only thing remaining to more of a dust. But if it's a pacemaker, etc, they cut it out before.

My Aggie ring (class of 70) goes to my daughter. Everything else gets split equally between my daughter and my son.

Here. Somewhere in Florida, around the Disneyworld area…..
I lost mine right after I got it while burning brush at my grandparent's place, but found it 3 days later on the ground right next to the burn pile.

No. We have had three family members die who had rings (my Granddad c/o '50, my Grandmother's "sweetheart" ring that was her engagement ring - basically the women's ring now, and my sister c/o '08). There are 4 rings between the three of them (Granddad had one w/ diamond and one without). No rings have been buried. They have been or will be passed down.
This subject, like many things we interject ourselves into nowadays, is nunya.
It's your ring, you can do with it what you want.

My wife at the time's family insisted on burying my class of '72 brother-in-law with his ring. I had no say in that. I want my ring to go to one my (hopefully) class of '33, 35 or '36 grandchildren. Put it on their finger for the service. Then remove it before the undertaker's crew steals it. Pass it down. I have my grandfather's ring and wear it on occasion. There's a zip in my son's outfit who wears his great grandfather's ring. Old army flat crest. It's red ass.
passing down and wearing a relatives ring is actually really cool. I knew a few who did it. Some of those rings get very worn down, but its incredible to be able to wear your ancestors on your hand every day.
I wear my grandpa's Class of '51 ring and it's one of my favorite possessions. But I don't give a crap what other people do
