It's been 30 years or so since I've been to a Luby's, but I always got the fish, and I remember it being rectangular...

I always thought a good marketing deal / cost cutting and saving method for Luby's would be to offer an all you can eat option after 7:00 pm. The amount of food you get would be limited to a single serving at one time, plus you must get in line to get it. Also, no additional food would be prepared.
dabo man said:Serious nostalgia for the Luby's in Beaumont. All four of my grandparents *loved* that place. I can remember going once with my maternal grandparents, sitting down, and there were my paternal grandparents, eating their lunch two tables over.Quote:
The one in Beaumont is still open. They're about to start widening I-10 there, though, and the construction may put the hurt on their business.

I miss the good old days. We had Luby's,
Wyatt's Cafeteria, Furrs Cafeteria, all chains. And good.
You forgot Piccadilly

Since we are on Luby's, there 2 close by, only one serves cheese enchiladas anymore and they aren't very good and only about once a month. They aren't even brought out of the kitchen in the big trays to the serving line. They are in single serving aluminum pans. Nothing like they use to be. Years back you could count them once a week usually on Thursday I believe.

Started to go downhill when they changed their crispy breading on their CFS.

Another thing that doomed Luby's is they got rid of the tea cart lady.
Went in there a couple years ago and abuela was gone and they had some pimple faced kid trying to give me table service at Luby's.
Half the reason you go to Luby's is you want to eat, be left alone and get in and out. No drama.
But they somehow ruined that.
Will leave a buck for the tea cart lady. but I'm not tipping for table service at a cafeteria. They done lost the minds.
Yep, same.Quote:
had to be there by 10:55

Growing up id never eaten at Lubys. If we ate at a cafeteria it was usually a Furrs, which was an all you can eat joint. Sometime fish year some buds and I decided to go to Lubys in college station. Having never eaten there, but assuming it was similar in concept to Furrs, I loaded up the tray. I think I had 2 entrees, several sides and multiple desserts. Made it to the register and had a heart attack when it rang up north of $40! I ended up having to use the "emergencies only" credit card my parents gave me to pay. That was an embarrassing phone call to have to explain that they were going to get a big charge when the bill came in because I didn't know how Lubys operated.

Where else can you get enchiladas and fried okra on the same plate.
